cpd25 Meeting of the Career Development Task Group
10th July 2007, University of Westminster, 2.00pm

Present:
David Gee (Chair), Liz Annetts, Diana Herman, Sarah Jackson, Anthony Loveland, Vivien Robertson, Kelly Travers, Suzy Ball (Administrator).

1. Welcome & Apologies:
Kelly Travers, from UEL, was welcomed to the group. Sarah Jackson is to go on maternity leave but will work with Kelly and the rest of the group to help plan events for 07/08. No apologies.

2. Planning Events: Chartership Programme.
06/07 had been the first year that the running of 10 chartership workshops had been undertaken by the group. This had worked well and so a similar programme will be undertaken in 07/08. The cost and amount of places will stay the same. It is possible for a HEI to book a place but split the workshop between two delegates. Certificates have been issued for this year's Chartership series and will be sent to those attending the entire programme in 07/08.
All workshops to have a 4-6pm slot, excluding Introduction to Chartership which will run 3-5pm.

October: Introduction to Chartership (Anthony) - Current format, and venue, works well and will be repeated in 07/08.  A.L to organise CILIP input. Event to be advertised widely as being suitable for all staff and not just Chartership Candidates.

November: Portfolio (Anthony) - The session for 06/07 was positively received now that it is a more practical session. A similar session will run in 07/08.

December: Collection Development (Vivien) - In 06/07 this workshop focused on Electronic Resources. The event will have the same focus in 07/08.

January: Developing a Service (Anthony) - Very good feedback received for 06/07 with 15 people rating the workshop as either very good or excellent.

February: Supervisory Skills (David).

March: Chartership Forum (Kelly) - Sarah organised this for 06/07 and will work with Kelly to reproduce the interactive approach that proved successful for 07/08. The question and answer element was particularly welcomed by attendees and this year Kelly will aim to have two facilitators present.

April: Financial Planning (Vivien) - Jean Yeoh to be invited to reprise her role.

May: Customer Care (Diana) - Sheila Ritchie to speak with the focus being on providing basic skills training and improving information literacy.

June: Legal Issues (Liz and Kelly) - The focus was on Copyright for 06/07, this went well and will be the same for 07/08 with more time allowed for a question and answer session. Monique Ritchie will be invited to repeat her interesting and knowledgeable talk but the venue will be altered.

July: Supporting our Users (David).

3. Planning Events: Seminar Programme
November: Applying to LIS (Anthony & Kelly) - Sarah and Anthony arranged this very successful event in 06/07, over 55 people attended. The extended all-day format will be repeated in 07/08 and the same venue will be used. Speakers from CILIP and UCL will be invited and Kelly will arrange for some recent graduates, including a representative of distance learning, to attend. There is a need for all speakers to remain at the event until after the plenary session.

November: Development Day (Diana & Liz) - The all day session held in 06/07 may be split into two optional sessions for 07/08. The NVQ / ECDL session could be repeated with an afternoon session covering the ACILIP certification process and examples of portfolios. A bigger venue may be needed. The session should be advertised as suitable for library assistants, mentors and training officers.

March: Staff Development Officer (Liz, Kelly & Anthony) - 07/08 seminar may focus on social networks but an email poll may indicate a more popular theme. Venue may be determined by the location of the review afternoon. [Mary Nixon to advise].
The fellowship and revalidation seminars will not run in 07/08
