3. Seminar Programme
3.1 October 2009 Applying to Study Library and Information Science…and beyond AL and BW reported to the group that this conference had taken place in October, that 33 delegates had attended and that it went very smoothly. The speakers were very good and it was noted that the delegates interacted with each other much more this year. The organisers thought that next time the Questions and Answer session could be a bit longer and that the student speakers should include a part-time learner and a distance learner. The group discussed running a networking session next time during the morning. It was agreed that SH would help with the organising of this event next year.
3.2 May 2010 Career Progression Day for Library Assistants CB and DG reported that they were currently organising this event which would take place next May and run as a whole day event. It was felt that last year’s venue was too small for this particular event and also that there wasn’t enough lunch for everyone. It was agreed that the maximum number of attendees should be 25 and some discussion took place regarding a possible venue.
3.3 Spring and Summer 2010 – two discussion forums for SDO’s The group discussed suitable topics for the two discussions forums to be run in March and June next year and the following titles along with some possible speaker names were suggested: ‘the role of SDO’s in dealing with change’ and ‘how to encourage non-learners’. Lunch would be held prior to these best practice discussion sessions taking place.
4. Visits Programme
4.1 May 2010 National Art Library SH reported that she is currently investigating this visit.
4.2 Senate House Library It was reported that the above visit won’t be able to take place before January 2011 at the earliest due to building work, and so HBT will investigate a visit to either the London Library or Lambeth Palace Library instead for July 2010.
