4. Reports

Progress was reported as follows:

Chartership: What's it all about - Sarah Elsegood
Sarah was able to report the event had been very successful. 16 delegates had attended. Susan Kaye from CILIP gave a very interesting talk that was well received by the delegates. It was noted that the venue (The manuscript room) at ULL was excellent.

Customer Care - Sarah Elsegood
Sarah requested ideas for speakers. The Manuscript room at ULL was suggested as a possible venue for the event. Sarah will be leaving her post shortly for a new position and will no longer be able to take part in the group. Diana agreed to take over the event. David thanked Sarah for all her hard work and the group wish her every success in her new job. Action: Caroline to confirm dates etc with Diana and book a venue for the event

Supervisory Skills - Cathy Parr
This event will be held on the 10th April 2003. Cathy has organised the venue at University College. The speakers from last year's event have kindly agreed to speak again this year.

Staff Development Officers Meeting - Cathy Parr
This event will take place in the Council Room of the King's College Strand campus. The morning will be for SDO's. Janet Smith and Diana Herman will present one topic around the theme of "how to be a SDO". Sue David will cover training and development within a converged service.

The afternoon will be aimed at CPD25 members and will be led by Jean Yeoh. The final arrangements for this event will be discussed at the Steering Group meeting in December.

Career Pathways - Elspeth Keith
This event will be held on the 20th February at the Camden Campus of the Royal Veterinary College. The room will be at no charge. Elspeth has 3 speakers booked for the event and expects 20 to 25 delegates. The group agreed that this event should be pitched at a non-graduate audience.

Current Trends - Elspeth Keith
This event is booked for the 18th June at the Royal Veterinary College, Camden Campus. Liz Davies has kindly agreed to speak. The group were keen to mark the end of the Chartership programme for the delegates with a celebration drink, either at the end of the session at RVC or at a Pub or wine bar nearby. It was agreed that David would talk to the Steering Group about CPD25 covering the cost of this. Elspeth was worried the room might not be available after the event but said she would double check. The group also thought a certificate for completing the "course" of events would be a good idea. It would help "brand" CPD25 and would give the delegates a tangible piece of evidence for personal development files. David asked that this idea was included in the agenda of the next steering group meeting.
Action: David raise covering the cost of a celebration drink with the steering group
Action: Elspeth will check if the room at RVC will be available after the event.
Action: Caroline to add the "Certificate" idea to the Steering Group's next meeting agenda.

Selling Yourself - Janet Westcott
This event will be held on the 15th January at SOAS. Keith Webster has kindly agreed to give the presentation.

Visit to the Institute of Mechanical Engineers - Janet Westcott
http://www.imeche.org.uk/imeche_new_010801/html/ils_new/welcome_index.html The visits will take place on 3rd & 15th July. The IME is part of the String of Pearls Jubilee Festival http://www.stringofpearls.org.uk/

Project Management - Diana Herman
This event will take place on the 4th December at University College London.

Enriching your Graduate Trainee Year - Diana Herman
Unfortunately, due to the industrial action that took place on the 14th November this event had to be postponed until the New Year. Diana hopes that she will be able to hold the event on the 30th January.

Collection Development - Vivien Robertson
This event will be held on the 20th November at King's College, Maughan Library. There are 16 delegates expected. As the event follows this meeting we will be able to have some feedback at the next meeting.

Library & Information Courses: Applying to Study LIS - Angela Jefkins
The event was held on 10th October 2002 and was well received by the delegates. The feedback was excellent. The delegates were particularly pleased that Vanda Boughton spent a lot of time discussing funding. Angela was able to get some prospectuses from some of the Library Schools which the delegates also commented were very useful.

Presentation Skills - Angela Jefkins
This event will be held on 19th March at the St Georges Medical Library. Sue David has kindly agreed to speak.

Imperial College Visit - Angela Jefkins
Angela has secured two visits on the 3rd and 18th February 2003. There will be a short talk in the conference room and then a tour of the Library.

Financial Planning & Budgets - David Gee
Jules Winterton will lead this event at the Institution of Advanced Legal Studies on the 26th February 2003.

David congratulated everyone on the programmes successful start. The group agreed to consider which topics to continue and develop for next year. Possibly developing a "core" of regular events. The group also wanted to think of new ideas for seminars and workshops to present at the SDO meeting in April 2003.
Action: The group will try to have some ideas for the next meeting.

5. Sarah Elsegood's Successor & Reallocation of Events

Diana agreed to take over Sarah's Customer Care event in May. Further discussions will be had regarding a new member for the group.

6. CPD25 Database of Rooms & Speakers

The group agreed that this would be an excellent idea. The room database would be able to list room facilities and contacts for booking. The Speaker database would be able to list Speakers areas of expertise and contact details. These databases could be kept on the CPD25 web pages and up dated as necessary. Caroline agreed this would be helpful and although a lot of work in the short term in the long run it would be a continuing resource for everyone. David suggested the idea should be presented to the Steering Group.
Action: Caroline to add the idea to the Steering Group Agenda

7. Any other business

The task group members were concerned about meeting Speakers travel expenses. Caroline confirmed that CPD25 would be able to cover travel expenses for Speakers.

8. Date of next meeting

The next meeting will be held at the SDO's event on the 8th April 2003 at the Strand Campus, King's College London. The group members were hoping that it would be possible to attend only the afternoon session of this day. Caroline will add the issue to the Steering Groups next agenda
Action: Caroline to add whole/half day attendance question to the Steering Group agenda.
