1. Apologies, Resignations and New Members:

Vivien Robertson sent her apologies and as it was the last meeting that VR was due to attend, the group wished it to be recorded how appreciative they were of her work for the group over the years that she has been a member. AL reported that Breege Whiten had had to resign from the group due to work commitments and that Helen Mason has joined Task Group 1 but had to send her apologies for this particular meeting. AL welcomed Libby Homer and Margaret Robinson to the group as new members. Another new member had also joined the group over the summer, Nazlin Bhimani, but she had had to leave a short while later due to a change of job. CH agreed to send the new members a copy of cpd25’s notes on organising events and visits.

2. Minutes of the Last Meeting: 24th May 2010

Accepted as accurate.

3. Matters Arising

The group agreed that any matters arising could be incorporated into each individual members’ update and the Chair’s update.

4. Chair’s Update

AL reported on the changes of membership to the group as outlined in section 1 above.

5. Progress Reports on Events

5.1  Professional Qualifications Workshops 2010/11

AL reported that the only outstanding session to be finalised was June 2011, as this had involved finding a new speaker. HBT agreed to remind the speaker as soon as possible that a date needed to be set for this session. AL reported that the first two sessions of the programme have now been run and that they went well. CH reported that the number of bookings for this year’s programme were similar to last year.

5.2 Applying to Study LIS

AL reported that this year’s Applying to Study LIS event had gone extremely well and had been very well received. CH reported that the number of bookings for this year’s event were similar to last year.

5.3 Career Progression day for Library Assistants

It was agreed that LH, MR and hopefully HM would help HBT with the organisation of this event. It was also agreed that Sue Hill would no longer be used for this event as they now required a fee to run the day. AL explained to the new members that this event is aimed at people who have been working in academic libraries for a few years and are unqualified. The aim was to give them hints and tips on how to progress and move on. The group agreed to run this event for a whole day.

5.4 SDO Discussion Forums

AL reported that he was hoping that the first of these forums would be run on 6th April 2011 and was just waiting for final confirmation from the trainer. The topic would be ‘Training the Trainer’. The topic for the second forum has yet to be decided upon and the group discussed possible ideas for this e.g. the MA in work based learning at Middlesex. LH agreed to help AL with the setting-up of this second forum.

5.5 Visits

The Group discussed possible places for visits and members agreed to carry out some research and report back to the group with their findings. Some possible places were the RNIB, The Geological Society and The Royal Society.
