cpd25 Meeting of the Career Development Task Group.
20th June 2006, University of Westminster, 2pm.

Present: David Gee (chair), Vivien Robertson, Liz Annetts, Sarah Jackson, Antony Loveland, Diana Herman, Dave Puplett (administrator)

1. Apologies:
None.

Sally Maitland has now left the group as she is relocating outside of London. David extends his thanks on behalf the group for her contribution.

Ruth Moore is still listed as part of the group but has not been in contact recently. David Gee to contact her.

The overall numbers are slightly low, so Dave and Jean Yeoh will endeavour to find an additional person by advertising at events and inviting members of the chartership series to join.

David thanked the whole group for a successful year of events, noting that this group handles the extra responsibility of the Chartership series and should be praised for it's ongoing success.

David reported the it has been agreed at Steering Group that the task group will be taken for lunch after the next meeting, dates to be arranged.

2. Chartership 05/06:

1 - Introduction - Ideal opener to the series, well received.
2 - Portfolio - Very practical session, good feedback.
3 - Collection Development - good session, but overcrowded with information.
4 - Developing a service - good feedback, to be repeated.
5 - Supervisory Skills - J. Cattermole, had to do it on her own, very good feedback
6 - Planning a teaching session - Good feedback but Sue David can't do it next year
7 - Customer Care - Sheila Ritchie - popular as always.
8 - Legal Compliance - Paul Pedley. Needs to be refocused on copyright issues.
9 - Financial Planning - Jean Yeoh - Yet to take place
10 - Supporting our Users - Liz Davis - Yet to take place.

Chartership 06/07:

1 - Oct: Introduction - Extended to include talk on cpd25 Exchange Scheme, running 3-5pm. (Antony)
2 - Nov: Portfolio - with Cheney Gardner (Antony)
3 - Dec: Collection Development - Just Electronic Resources this year, likely to be rotated next year to Print resources. (Vivien)
4 - Jan: Developing a service - as this year if Graham Bulpitt is available (Antony)
5 - Feb: Supervisory Skills - J. Cattermole, straight repeat. (David)
6 - March: Mid series discussion forum, led by 2/3 people, possibly RLO's and a recent chartership candidate talking about their experiences. (Sarah)
7 - April: Financial Planning - Jean Yeoh (Vivien)
8 - May: Customer Care - Sheila Ritchie (Diana)
9 - June: Legal Issues - Focus on Data Protection, Electronic resources (Liz, Sarah)
10 - July: Supporting our Users - Liz Davis (David)

Costings/numbers to remain the same. Dave expressed the need to get dates fixed as early as possible to be able to advertise the whole series with dates confirmed.

3. Seminars 05/06:
Applying To Library School - No CILIP speaker due to date clash. Venue too hot. Very popular - 45 bookings.

Development Day - First session very successful, but some negative feedback from people with different expectations from the second.

Mentoring - 18 delegates, very successful.

Fellowship - Low numbers at 8 but a useful session.

Revalidation - Only 7 attendees, with made for an informal discussion style session.
Probably best to skip a year and re-un in 07/08.

SDO Morning - Difficult to organise, but well received session this year. The venue was aesthetically great but acoustically poor.


Seminars 06/07:

Applying To Library School - Dave to book a lecture theatre style room. Date to avoid Half Term and CILIP day.
Session to be elongated to include lunch as an opportunity for more questions and answers, perhaps 11-

Development Day - Repeat in Nov with clearer advertising to prevent misunderstandings about intended audience.
Nov 23rd provisionally (Diana)

Mentoring - Date already set. CILIP representatives to be confirmed.
Jan 16th(David)

Fellowship - Straight repeat, but to be advertised in advance of Christmas to open booking early.
Feb (Vivien)

SDO Event - Dave to consult Jean about timing and format of the cpd25 review session this year and to review the marriage of these two sessions.

Possible Staff Development Document / Policy theme to tie in with cpd25 Repository.
March (Antony, Liz)

4. Visits 05/06:
National Gallery - 2 visits, both fully booked and very popular. (Sally)

Britten Pears Visit - 12 people attended out of possible 15. Long journey but well worth it to see such a unique library. (David)

Cambridge Visit - fully booked at 15, Dave and Sarah to attend. (Antony)

Visits 06/07:
Freemason's Library: Two visits, March (Sarah)

Second Visit TBC

5. Next Meeting:
To be held first week of November, 11am start followed by lunch, near University of Westminster, Dave to arrange via email.
