Proposed programme for the Seminar Programme 2003/2004
The group agreed to offer four seminar events.
Applying to Study LIS (Library and Information Services)
It was agreed that the cohort of graduate trainees that make up the
audience for this event was consistent. This sessions bookings had
reached 30 delegates so the group felt it was well worth running the
event again. However, there is no restriction on the types of staff who
may wish to attend. Anyone with an interest in making an application to
study LIS will be very welcome.
Chris Launder will convene this event. The group decided that
Chartership candidates should be encouraged to get involved with
organising events.
This event will be held in October 2003
Action: Caroline to find Chris a Chartership partner.
Enriching your graduate trainee year.
As with the LIS seminar the group felt that this event was worth
running. The event will be aimed at graduate trainees but again library
assistants can fill any surplus places.
Diana Herman will convene this event.
This event will be held in November 2003
Career Pathways
This event is a
reprise of this year's successful event that is aimed at non-graduate
library assistants. This time the remit will be wider and will look at
other forms of non-graduate, non-traditional routes to career
development that result in a qualification. As before the event will
look at NVQ's and City & Guilds courses. New aspects will include
the ECDL programme and the Distance Learning programmes offered by
Aberystwyth among others.
Janet Westcott & Elspeth Keith will convene this event.
This event will be held in February 2004
Staff Development Projects
Aimed
at staff development officers in the first instance, the event will
include sessions on Personal Development Plans, summarising
competencies, evaluating training benefits etc. Janet Westcott &
Diana Herman will convene this event.
This event will be held in March 2004
These four events will comprise the main programme. An additional event was discussed.
Staff Development Officers Event
A reprise of the successful event held in April 2003. However, the
format will be very different. We hope to have discussion groups
covering the pro's and con's of the post, what can be achieved, what
can't. We hope to use the feedback to create a sharing of experience
and best practice. The group decided that some extra help would be
needed. Caroline would try to find a willing partner to "co-opt" to the
group for this single event. It was also clear we would need a strong
facilitator/chair figure.
Event to be convened by David Gee + others.
To be held in April/May 2004 - again possibly part of cpd25 review session.
ACTION: Caroline to find a co-opt member.
Proposed visit programme for 2003/2004
FEBRUARY 2004: Courtauld Institute of Art Library x 2 visits
(Co-ordinator: Chris Launder)
JULY 2004: Open University - new library x 2visits
(Co-ordinator: Janet Westcott)
The group agreed to try to get provisional dates by July where possible.
4. Any other business
Caroline was able to confirm that a web re-design of the CPD25 pages
would be happening over the summer. The aim was to have a much slicker
and more interactive site. The site will offer much more functionality
such as online booking forms and links to event details.
5. Date of next meeting
None as yet - maybe in September if required.
