Meeting of the cpd25 Career Development Task Group 1

Tuesday 7th June 2011, 2pm, LSE – NAB 8.02

1. Apologies and New Members

Helen Mason sent her apologies. AL welcomed MC and JC to the Group.

2. Minutes of the Last Meeting: 1st December 2010

Accepted as accurate.

3. Chair’s Update

AL introduced MC to the Group as the new Chair of Task Group 1, as he will be moving on to the post of Chair of cpd25 from 1st August.

4.1 Progress Reports on 2010-11 Events

4.1.1 Career Progression Day

HBT reported that this event had gone well and that there had been an equal split of attendees between those who were qualified and non-qualified. Everyone who attended was very determined to become a librarian.

4.1.2 SDO Discussion Forum 1

AL reported that this event had taken place in April, that the tutor had been very good but expensive, and that slightly less people than expected had attended.

4.1.3 Copyright Session – Professional Qualifications Series

HBT reported that the above session was taking place tomorrow and that she had a new speaker for this year.

4.1.4 SDO Discussion Forum 11

AL reported that this would be taking place on 28th June.

4.2 Progress Reports on 2011-12 Events

4.2.1 Professional Qualifications Workshops 2011-12

The organisation of the 2011-12 workshops were divided amongst the group as follows:

CILIP session, October –  MC.

Introduction to Marketing, November – SH.

E-Resources, December – MR.

Introduction to Developing a Service, January – MC. 

Supervisory Skills, February –LH.

Portfolio Forum, March – MR.

Introduction to Financial Management, April – MR.

Customer Care, May – JC.

Introduction to Copyright, June – HBT. 

Supporting our Users, July – LH.

4.2.2 Applying to Study LIS

It was agreed to run this event on Friday, 28th October, with SH and JC as the organisers.

4.2.3 Career Progression day for Library Assistants

It was agreed that HBT, LH and MR would organise this event with a view to running it in mid February.

4.2.4 SDO Discussion Forums

It was agreed that the first of these forums would be organised by SH, HBT and JC, to be run end of January/early February. It was agreed that the second forum would be organised by MC, MR and LH for June.

4.2.5 Visits

LH agreed to look into a visit to the new building that the University of the Arts was hoping to move into shortly. This could be run during the first term if all goes to plan. MR agreed to look into a visit to the Waterloo campus at KCL.

5. AOB

The group congratulated HM on the recent birth of her baby.

6. Date of Next Meeting

It was agreed that this would be in early December.
