The feedback from evaluation forms was very good and CP agreed to send one of the speakers some more information on this.
4.2 Customer Service in the Commercial Sector MC and YD reported that they now had a major retail organisation lined up to speak at this event and they would be covering such areas as managing rapid change and looking outside the normal remits of people’s jobs. MC and YD said that they were hoping to get a speaker from a university for the second half of the day, to talk about the chartermark and they were also hoping that the issue of dealing with difficult and challenging users would be looked at. The prospective date for this event is 12th April, for up to 25 people, using two rooms in a good venue. The intended audience is training officers & reader services managers
4.3 Library Access for non-traditional learners YD reported that she had a good programme organised for this event and hoped to run it during April/May .

4.6 Business Process Re-engineering CP reported that this event was now being organised with a view to it running during May. It would be aimed at middle and senior managers and the programme was now finalised.

4.9 Visit to NMRC CP reported that the date for this visit should be confirmed shortly.
4.10 Any other events or visits MC suggested a possible summer event on recent library building projects and CP suggested a possible future event on business continuity planning.
5 AOB The group would like to record that in the course of their discussions they began to visualise a future event, possibly for next year’s programme, on the problems of dealing with external factors. One example given was the hand-in dates and times for student assignments, how they are decided upon and the implications these have for academic libraries. One possible answer to this particular issue might be to get deadlines moved from 5pm on Fridays to Monday mornings. Another example was the various heat bindings on offer to students in libraries and how these are set up for use. Members agreed to go away and have a think about other problem situations that regularly arise, with a view to discussing these further at a future meeting.
6 Next meeting The next meeting would be held on 22nd April 2010 at 2.30pm in the LSE Library, with the annual task group lunch taking place beforehand at 1pm.
