Meeting of the cpd25 Operations Management Task Group
2.30pm, Wednesday 11th February 2009, SOAS Library

4. Update on 2008/9 events that have already taken place:

4.1 Project Planning:
YD reported that this event went very well; the practical session at the beginning, however, could certainly have been run over the course of a day. Next year topical issues to look at in case studies could be project planning in the context of widespread decreases in funding – e.g. reorganising space rather than re-designing.
4.2 Visit to Kingston Hill Nightingale Centre
MC reported that the visit went well.
4.3 Visit to the National Digital Archive
MC reported that the visit will be repeated.
4.4 Change Management
CF reported that the event went well, but that next time it should be a full-day event, and deal more directly with the emotions of staff who are involved in change processes. CF also suggested, which the group concurred with, the scope for a conference addressing several aspects of change management –structural/building change, organisational change, staff wellbeing etc.

5.Update on 2008/9 events in planning:

5.1 Basic Inquiry Skills
The group agreed that there was a shortage of events aimed at lower level staff, however the exact remit of this event needs further consideration
5.2 Working Patterns
MC offered a speaker for the event, but further details need to be clarified. The group agreed that there was also scope for an additional event on 24-hour opening. Kingston University are making a film about their 24-hour access, which will be edited over the summer; if the event took place in Autumn 2009, then the event could include excerpts from the film. CF offered to assist MC on the event.
5.3 Catering for Mature Students
The group agreed that this event should be left until 2009/2010. The remit of the event could be broadened to cover the operations management side of a widening/changing student demographic. CP to liaise with RA of TG2 to either work on collaborative cross-task group events, or to ensure that there is no clash with events that TG2 is already planning.
5.4 E-Learning
CP reported that it is hoped that this event can be finalised shortly.
5.5 Visit to National Monuments Record Centre
CP reported that this is in hand; to liaise with VF regarding a date.
 

6  AOB:
CP suggested that one or two visits from the last year or two might be repeated; the group will look back at previous records.
