Operations Management Task Group Meeting 10.30am, 17th July 2007, University of East London Docklands Campus In attendance Carole Pickaver (Chair), Martin Carbonell, Caroline Fletcher, Cathy Phillpotts, Judith Anne Preece, Emma Wilson. Apologies Susan Gilbert is taking a sabbatical and will therefore be leaving the group. The group expressed their thanks to Susan and their best wishes for her sabbatical. Update on 06/07 Activities Benchmarking (Cathy) - This has been deferred due to an injured speaker. It will be added to the 07/08 events programme, with a November / December date. Focus Group 28.04.07 (Caroline) - This took place at SOAS Brunei Gallery. Monica Glynn, from Middlesex, gave a very good talk and was well received and Peter Godwin chaired the event well. One speaker was fairly weak and this impacted on the quality of the related discussion. The event will not run in 07/08. Managing Multiple Sites 18.05.07 (Roddie & Martin) - Martin reported that the event went well and was well received by the mix of senior and other staff that attended. Three of the four speakers made very useful contributions. The venue, Anglia Ruskin University, was excellent. The event will not run in 07/08 but may be revisited in 08/09. Action Learning Sets - No report. Reflection and Evaluation (Caroline) - This event was due to take place on the 2nd July but was cancelled due to the illness of the speaker. It is intended to run this in October and evaluate the success after it has been held in order to decide whether there is the need or scope for it to run again in July 2008. [The event is now confirmed for 25th October]. NDAD Visit (Martin) - Positive feedback was received. The hosts had put a lot of effort in which made for a very interesting visit with four presentations. Martin will look at running this again, perhaps combining it with a seminar on digitisation. British Museum Visit (Emma) - One visit took place in June and Emma is to cover the one on the 25th July. Both visits were oversubscribed. Space Planning (Martin & Emma) - Event delayed until April 2008 due to building works at Kingston University. Martin is in the process of assembling speakers and will aim for speakers who can inform attendees about good and bad experiences. Planning for 07/08 In addition to the events outlined above. Martin and Carole to discuss possibly running something based on the Advanced Relationship Management session held at Kingston. Martin reported that Beverley Baker ran an all day session, using actors, that examined staff expectations of student behaviour. Judith suggested an event, aimed at library assistants, focussing on putting e-learning into context. This may cross over with other task group events. Carole will look at arranging a visit to Sheffield University Library. Cathy will investigate the possibility of visiting the National Monuments Record Centre in Swindon. All visits could be run twice in the 07/08 period. Date of Next meeting 10.30am, 30th October, Kingston University (TBC) |
