Operations Management Task Group Meeting
24th October 2006, 10.30am University of Westminster.


Present: Carole Pickaver (chair), Susan Gilbert, Caroline Fletcher, Catherine Phillpotts, Martin Carbonell, Kate Burke, Dave Puplett (administrator)

1. Apologies:
Recieved from Roddie Shepherd and Emma Wilson.

2. Notes:
Rose Coughlan has left the group for new post in Galway. The group thanks her for all her hard work over the last couple of years, and wished her he best for the future.
Kate Burke will be retiring in February, and will be passing her repsonsibilities in the group on to Judith Preece, also from UEL.

2. Minutes of previous meeting:
Accepted as accurate record.

3. Seminars 05/06:
Mergers, June: This event made a financial loss of about £1000, due to the cancellation of the second day and the low number of bookings.

The group still felt that the event was useful, and expressed their thanks to the speakers for their efforts.

4. Seminars 06/07:
Benchmarking: Cathy, Carole
Dave confirmed that travel expenses would be covered for any potential speaker.

Focus Groups:
Caroline and Susan: Potential Speakers were discussed.
Dave to ask Vanda at SLAIS, UCL, about any teaching on focus groups.

Action Learning Sets:
Kate decribed the process undertaken at UEL and discussed how we could run a session on the topic.
Judith Preece to pick up on the organisation when Kate leaves.
This could be linked to Coaching - possible contact with TG4's managment programme.

Reflection and Evaluation:
Caroline + New person
Susan recalled that London Health Libraries ran a session on 'Reflective Writing and how to do it'
Cathy discussed the need for chartership candidates to reflect.

Space Planning:
Martin to contact Emma.
To be held at Kingston.
Potential sources of speakers:
Middlesex
de Haviland
Senate House
Andrew McDonald

Also mentioned was the Saltire Centre, Glasgow.

Managing Multiple Sites:
Roddie and Martin.

Self Issue:
Caroline: To be run as an exchange of experience session, possibly early in 07/08 after the current round of RFID conferences have taken place.

Visits:
UEL, Kate:
Popular visit, Dave has arranged a second visit on the 6th December.

Hendon Shepherd Library, Caroline:
Caroline and Dave to arange a date, possibly before Christmas.

Drill Hall, Chatham, Carole:
Dave to liase with Carole about dates.

Kingston Hill, Kingston, Martin:
On the back burner until the library has opened and is available for visits.

5. Date of Next Meeting:
14th February 2006, Drill Hall Chatham. Carole to arrange room, Dave to organise transport for the group. Judith Preece will be invited to ease handover from Kate.
