Meeting of cpd25 Task Group 3 - Operations Management

26th November 2009, 2.30pm

4. Update on 2009/10 events being planned

 

4.1 Collection Development

CP reported that the programme for this event was almost ready and she just needed to double-check arrangements with all the speakers.

 

4.2 Customer Service in the Commercial Sector

MC reported that he was currently in discussion with a major retailer and would be meeting them shortly to see how they can get involved with this event. He would like them to talk about their ethos, their staff training programmes, how they maintain consistency and how they keep staff motivated. YD agreed to accompany MC to this meeting and AD also agreed to ask his Head of Security who they use to train their staff.

 

4.3 Library Access for non-traditional learners

YD discussed with the group possible speakers and content for this event which is due to take place around March 2010.

 

4.4 Working Patterns

The names of possible speakers for the topics of annualised hours and job shares were suggested to the organisers (YD and CF), who agreed to follow these up.  It was agreed that this would be a half-day event.

 

4.5 24/7

CF reported that she needed to find a speaker from a library who had abandoned 24/7 and YD agreed to do this. The programme was scoped out with the group and it is hoped to run this event during May.

 

4.6 Business Process Re-engineering

CP reported that preparation for this event was going well. One organisation plus several individual speakers will be talking of their experiences of Business Process Re-engineering.

 

4.7 Digitising Collections

MC reported that he had made some good contacts for this event, which he hopes to run in late Spring.

 

4.8 Copyright

CP mentioned to the group that at yesterday’s cpd25 Steering Group meeting it was suggested that this event plus some other copyright training events that are being organised by other task groups, are advertised together to display their differences.

 

4.9 Visit to NMRC

CP reported that the NMRC is keen to have a visit from cpd25 and that this should be taking place in February. The group would meet at Swindon Station.

 

4.10 Visit to SOAS

YD reported that a date cannot be set for this yet as planned building work hasn’t started yet. The group discussed a possible visit to RIBA instead.

6 Next meeting

The next meeting would be held on 10th February 2010 at 2.30pm, at London Southbank University. AD agreed to book a room for this.
