5.
Update on
20008/9 events that have taken place:
5.1
Working
Patterns The Group agreed that this was definitely worth doing next year, but they would need to be careful of straying into other Task Groups’ remits
5.2
E-Learning CP and VK reported that this eventually took place, after a few problems to do with speaker unavailability, but that this ran as a half day. They reported that this event was possibly worth doing again.
5.3
Wiener
Library Visit JP reported that this was a fascinating visit and talk and was worth running again after the move
6.
Update on
2008/9 events yet to take place, or in planning:
6.1
Visit to National
Monuments Record Centre
It was agreed that this should be
advertised as early as possible in order to book cheap train tickets to
6.2
Collection
Development The Group discussed a possible collaboration with Task Group 1 for this event. As VK has now resigned JP and CP will be taking the arrangements for this event forward. JC suggested a possible contact at Anglia Ruskin and CP suggested involving one of the charities. It may be worth inviting private book dealers who deal with the disposal of books. To ensure that this keeps to Task Group 3’s remit we need to ensure that the event has an operational focus.
6.3
Customer
Service in the Commercial Sector MC was not present to give an update on this event. The Group discussed using roving assistants/student ambassadors for this and possibly inviting John Lewis along. The Group also discussed working patterns, behaviour issues, how do you maintain services when you are not open normal hours and the use of mystery shoppers. YD and JC offered to assist with the organisation of this event. The Group agreed to take it forward to fairly early next year.
6.4
Catering for
Mature Students The title of the event is still to be finalised but might be called ‘Library Access for Non Traditional Learners’. The event would be organised for a date well into the next academic year. YD could provide a presentation on disability. The event may also encompass international students.
6.5
Working
patterns YD and CF were working on this – it could cover annualised hours, part-time workers, student workers, 24/7, security. AD expressed an interest in helping with an event on 24.7 opening and it was decided that it might merit being a separate event.
6.6
Visit to
SOAS It was reported that this visit cannot take place at the moment due to refurbishment work.
6.7
Visit to
Putney Public Library It was agreed that this can be organised over the summer by email.
6.8
National
Digital Archive MC and JC will work on this at a later date.
6.9
Other visits
Suggestions were the Imperial War Museum, the London Library, Harvey Kreitman Research Centre at the Tate, however we need to focus on more substantial events first.
7.
Report from
the Planning Day: YD reported back to the Group on the Planning Day and the Group thanked her for attending this. CP will circulate the list of potential events by e-mail so that the group can decide which ones are appropriate for us to take on.
8.
AOB: N/A
9.
Date of next
meeting: 4th August 2009, LSE. CP to circulate dates for meeting thereafter.
