6. Update on 2009/10 events being planned:

6.1 Visit to National Monuments Record Centre

CP agreed to look at booking this visit for some time during the week commencing 26th October. The aim would be for people to book cheaper advance tickets and then get the 12.59 train, arriving at Swindon Station at 14.06. The Centre is a ten-minute walk from the station.

6.2 Collection Development

It was reported that arrangements for this event were almost complete now. CP reported that she needed to locate a possible speaker for the collections management of special collections and that some possible book sellers were also being investigated.

6.3 Customer Service in the Commercial Sector

MC reported that he hadn’t been able to do any work on this event recently but that he was hoping to run it in February 2010. A discussion took place amongst the Group re possible speakers and the aims of this event were clarified. AD agreed to send MC a suggestion of a library speaker with the Chartership Mark/Customer Service Excellence.

6.4 Library Access for Non Traditional Learners/Catering for Mature Students

YD had sent her apologies for this meeting, so it was agreed to hold this event over until the next meeting, A discussion did take place however concerning the intended audience for this event i.e. students with disabilities, distance learning, international students etc.

6.5 Working patterns

YD was also leading on this event and so a complete update wasn’t possible until next time but CF reported that arrangements were proceeding well for this event. It is hoped to run this event in early December. With regard to this event MC agreed to look into using a film for this together with two speakers.

6.6 24.7

CF agreed to investigate a similar event on 24/7 which was run by cpd25 around five years ago, to see if the same speakers could be approached to give updates on this subject. AD agreed to help with this. The Group had a detailed discussion on what could be offered and it was agreed that this subject is very topical and would therefore be very popular. The aim would be to run the event in May/June 2010.

6.7 Business Process Re-Engineering

CP reported back to the Group that MN had suggested that they run an event on the above topic. CP agreed to investigate this further and get the event going ready for a member of the Group to take over. CP thinks that this event would appeal to senior management. The aim would be to run this as a half-day event at the end of April.

6.8 Copyright

AD asked about running an event on the above topic and CP said that she would find out if Task Group 2 is running one of these next year. [N.B. subsequent to the meeting CH established that TG2 is indeed looking to run one of these next year – possibly a series of them].

6.9 Visit to SOAS

This is still on hold due to refurbishment work.

6.10 Visit to Imperial War Museum Library

AD agreed to organise this.

6.11 Other Visits

MC agreed to investigate an afternoon visit followed by a Digitising Collections half-day event (to run two weeks apart from each other). It was agreed to hold off organising other visits until the main events are organised.
