4th November 2008

Meeting of the cpd25 Operations Management Task Group, 4th November 2008

In attendance: Carole Pickaver (Chair), Martin Carbonell, Yvette Dickerson, Vicky Falconer, Caroline Fletcher, Vicky Kontou, Judith Preece

Apologies: Jenny Cefai, Cathy Phillpotts

VF was welcomed and introduced to the group.

Minutes:

1
Update on previous activities.

1.1
Reflective Practice:
This was a well-received event, though turnout was relatively low. CF did not receive feedback summary at her new address. VF to forward this on.
1.2
CP congratulated the group on what was a successful 2007/8 programme.

2
Planning for 2008/9

2.1
E-Learning in context:
VK was hoping that this event would be taking place in November, however this is now looking unlikely. A list of possible dates in January and February have been suggested; shortly they will be finalised and the event can be advertised, as the speakers have been organised. It will be a day-long event, aimed at all levels of staff. We would hope to receive 25-30 delegates.
2.2
Visit to Kingston Hill:
A date has been finalised: 11th December at 2.30pm. MC to forward further details to VF so that publicity can be done.
2.3
Project Planning:
The event in January that JP and YD are organising is almost finalised and ready to be advertised. The day will include 4 case studies, need to be finalised (e.g. architect that is going to give presentation). YD offered to chair the event, which was agreed to with thanks.
2.4
National Digital Archive:
The idea of the all-day event that MC had in mind was not well-received by National Digital Archive. It is likely that the event will be a half-day, in a similar format to last time. On a separate occasion, perhaps another event could be done with speakers at ULCC.
2.5
Change Management:
All planning underway. Ash will tailor event to group that he gets. Perhaps next time the marketing for this event should be better.
2.6
Collection Development:
VK will contact VR from TG1 to see if it could be run as a collaborative event with Chartership workshops. Dates not yet sent, hope to be before Easter. It will be a half-day event; we should check with CILIP to avoid clash with any similar event they are planning.
2.7 Customer service in the commercial sector:
This hasn’t been followed up yet; MC will contact John Lewis and Saga. [catering for mature students was agreed by the group to be an interesting possibility for a workshop in itself.]
2.8
Basic Inquiry skills
:
Might be interesting provided that there is no crossover with other groups
2.9
Working patterns
:
MC has speaker. YD will take on the event provided that it is after Easter. The event will be pitched at managers and future managers. Job share was agreed by the group to be a good and timely topic. CF to assist YD. The issue of 24 hour service could be a separate event. Perhaps in late June?

3.0 No other issues to report
