14th February 2008

Meeting of the Personal Effectiveness and Management Task Group
14th February 2008, University of Westminster, 3.30pm.

In attendance: Judith Cattermole (Chair), Val Straw, Jacky Camroux, Gerry Power, Sally Faith, Sara Burnet, Suzy Ball (Administrator).

1. Apologies: Claire Jeffrey.

Note: Susan Rivers has now left the group.

2. Minutes: Accepted as an accurate record of the September 2007 meeting.

3. 07/08 Programme:

3.1 (Dec – February)

Coping at the Counter & New Managers series. Bookings are strong on these events and positive feedback has been given on all the sessions run thus far.

Marketing Day. Val worked with TG5 members on this event. Following a reduction in the number of available speakers the event ran as a half day and worked well in this format. Positive feedback was received.

Succession Planning. Sara had been liaising with Susan Rivers on this event. Little progress could be made and the event will now be run as part of the 08-09 programme.

Houses visit. Val led the visit to the houses of Dickens and Dr Johnson. The walk between the two venues was lengthier than expected but other wise the visit went well. It was very popular, becoming rapidly fully booked, and though neither venue could be said to warrant an individual visit this combination could run again.

3.2 (April  - June)

Senior Library Assistants Conference (1.4.08). The initial response to the advertising of this event has been very positive, with approx. 40 bookings received within a few days. Those contacted to act as hosts for the associated visits reacted very positively to the event and all venues and speakers are now confirmed. Maria Smith (Sussex) was warmly thanked, by Sally and the group, for her work on organising the event. The group provided Sally with some ideas for questions to be used in the debate part of the conference. Mary Nixon will be asked to chair the discussions in addition to her role as speaker.

Change Management (2.5.08). Gerry provided an updated programme for the event. On booking delegates will be asked to provide their first and second choice of workshop. Task group members Sally, Judith & Jacky volunteered to act as speakers and facilitator on the day.

Emotional Intelligence (5.6.08) Ash Charlton will run this session. Prices will be determined based on 20-25 delegates.

Visit to ZSL. (16.7.08) Sara has arranged a visit to the library at London Zoo, as a replacement for the postponed visit to Kew Gardens. There will be a fee of £5.50 per delegate.

Visit to University of the Arts: Jacky to arrange and date to be confirmed. A maximum of 12 people could be accommodated.

Visit to Bank of England: Donald to arrange. No update.

4. Discussion Paper:

Judith will present the opinions of the group to the steering group.

Next meeting: 3rd June 2008, 3pm, University of Westminster
