15th February 2007
Meeting of the cpd25 Personal Effectiveness and Management Task Group
15th February 2007, University of Westminster, 9.30am.

Present: Judith Cattermole (Chair), Val Straw, Sally Faith, Donald Lickley, Beverley Lightley, Susan Rivers, Dave Puplett (administrator)

1. Apologies:

Jacky Camroux, Claire Jeffery, Jo Butler, Sara Burnett.

2. Minutes of 14th September
Succession planning - should read 'Ema-Link'.

3. Matters Arising
Will be dealt with in 4/5.

4. Programme 2006/7

Coping at the Counter:
One successful session already run on December 7th.
Repeat lined up, almost full on May 9th.

Coping Even Better at the Counter:
Very popular - numbers capped at 14 at Sheila Ritchie's request. Enough demand for another session.

Dave / Jacky to arrange 2 sessions of the short and 2 more of the long for 07/08, and Dave to advertise all of them at the start of the year to give people fair choice over which is more suitable.

New Managers Series:
Positive comments from delegates so far (2 of the three sessions have taken place). Beryl happy with the group. Dave reported that two people were unable to attend all three events, but that they would still be charged the full amount.

Management Development Programme:
Coaching was planned to be first in the series, but is now scheduled last, on June 5th. It was agreed to completely avoid October for future such events.

Strategic Leadership took place on 5th December, at LSE.
The experience of the delegates was quite varied, which was a challenge for the trainer. Using pre-course questionaires could be a way to enable trainers to prepare for this problem in the future.

Performance Management took place on 8th February, at SOAS.
Affected by the snow - only 6 of the 11 managed to make it. Feedback forms were taken by Steve Walker, who will be posting onto Dave in due course.

The future of the series will be given further consideration. Possibilities include a rolling programme, giving it a rest for a year, or offering the events as one-offs instead of as a series. The name could also be changed to 'Leadership' programme/ or similar.

Mapping Competencies:
November 7th, at Birkbeck. Feedback was overall positive but mixed. The session was quite brief, and the case study from Derby was the best-received part of the morning.

Negotiation Skills:
1st Dec, at the London Mathematical Society. A new venue for us, and very successful. Ash enjoyed the session at we had 12 people, an ideal number for group work.

Succession Planning:
Planned for after Easter. Sara still trying to find a speaker after HIMSS appeared a dead end. Susan to contact Sara with offer of help and suggested speaker.

Widening Opportunities for Staff Development:
Val looking at 26-28, or if need-be 29th March. Venue likely to be LSE. Speaker identified, just needs a programme to be finalised.

Emotional Intelligence:
Ash and RCOG booked for 8th June. Numbers to be capped at 15.

Marketing Course:
Claire has contacted Antony Brewerton who has agreed to do a session at the end of the academic year.

Brighton Jubilee and University of Sussex Visit:
Sally has fixed a date of 14th June. The afternoon visit will focus on special collections, and we will have a choice of what to see. The choice will be made clear in the blurb for the event.
Dave and Sally to investigate best transport links, most likely option will be to leave people to make their own way there.

Nat History Museum:
Very successful visit, fully booked and very well received. Maretha Allwright planned the tour, which took in four different libraries, and a range of different tour guides.

Chelsea:

Donald will confirm the date shortly.

RHS:

Date fixed for May 15th. Dave to arrange transport to Wisley.

Kew:

Sara has booked this for the 22nd June

Scotland Yard
This visit was unfortunately cancelled due to the closure of the library. Sara regrets that it was cancelled at such short notice, and Dave has offered those who were scheduled to attend preferential booking on future visits or events.

Oxford Brookes Exchange of Experience Day:
This has 13 people booked already, and has proven popular. There is good variety in the positions of those applying, which we were hoping for. This should give a good spread of interests on the day.

5. AOB
Beverley Lightley will be standing down from the group for maternity leave and time pressures from other professional obligations. The group thank her for all her hard work and contribution to cpd25, and wish her all the best for the future.

6. Date of Next Meeting:
Either 25th or 26th (pm) June, at Westminster, Dave to confirm via Email.
