Minutes of the Personal Effectiveness & Management Task Group,

Held on 23rd February 2006 at 3pm,

University of Westminster

Present: Judith Cattermole (Chair), Val Straw, Jacky Camroux, Beverley Lightley, Donald Lickley, Sara Burnett, Jo Butler & Dave Puplett (administrator)

1. Apologies

Sally Faith.

Elaine Salter has left the group due to new responsibilities at University of Westminster.

2. Minutes of the last meeting – Sept 06

3.2 – Cancellation Policy. Still not fully discussed. Will be brought up at next Steering Group meeting, with reference to external speakers that this group employs more than the others.

5 – Spelling of Mangers to be changed to Managers.

Otherwise accepted as accurate.

3. Programme 2005/06

Coping at the Counter –

One session completed, two more almost fully booked for March and June. All at Brunei Gallery, very successful. Some feedback about the possibility of extending the session into a full day, expanding the scope of the event to include wider customer services issues.

Mapping Competencies –

Jacky reported that this will not be a traditional breakfast briefing event, but likely to take place 10-12pm. Speaker will be Louise Hart from Derby.

Dave to arrange date and costings for audience of 10-15 people.

Effective meetings –

Jo reported two successful sessions, attended by Dave in December. These were held at Levelheaded and both were about ¾ booked up. This was enough to make them financially viable.

Statistics (making your case with) –

Attended by Dave and Donald. This session was hampered by the late arrival of Claire Creaser due to train delays. The session was cut by an hour, and was very close to being cancelled. Given the circumstances, the session was a good as could have been hoped, however it was a serious compromise on the original programme.

Rewarding Staff –

Val attended with Dave at LSE. Very successful event with an ideal format for discussion. The presentation about LSE’s new scheme was interesting, and provoked much discussion amongst the delegates.

The question of a follow up to this session was raised – Dave to discuss at Steering group the possibility of arranging email discussion or even using the website for such purposes.

Negotiation –

Judith to write advertising blurb soon.

Likely limit of 20 people.

Emotional Intelligence –

12th June – likely limit of 15 people, although Ash Charlton said up to 25 would be fine

Middle Managers –

The series has 7 people booked for all three, the rest of the places have been one off bookings.

The feedback was positive for both completed sessions, although the room for the first one (KCL lg39) was not ideal. The room for the second session was much better – including a sit down lunch at LSE.

New Managers –

Elaine not present – Dave reports that the first two have taken place, with very positive feedback so far. Feedback for the whole series will be available after the last one has been completed.

Visits:

Brighton Jubilee –

Sally not present to update.

Prison Library – Val.

Dave to lead the first group of 5 on the 7th March, Caroline Lloyd from LSHTM to lead the second. Heavily over subscribed.

Scotland Yard – Sara has inherited this visit from the Statutory Regulations group, and will organise another visit there in the summer.

4. Any other business

Dave explained that the cpd25 website would soon be replaced by a brand new site. The date of the cpd25 Review Day was confirmed as 27th March 2006

5. Date of next meeting
