Meeting of cpd25 Task Group 4: Personal Effectiveness and Management

In attendance: Florence Achen-Owor, Sally Brock, Sara Burnett, Karen Ellis-Rees,  Sally Faith (Chair), Claire Hackshall (Administrator), Gerard Power, Val Straw.

4. Review of the programme for 2009-10

The group discussed at length how the programme for 2009-10 had gone and from this scoped out a programme for 2010-11, with each member of the group taking responsibility for several events/visits.

5. Consider the programme for 2010-11

The following programme was agreed for 2010-11:

5.1 Leadership Development: lessons for aspiring leaders

SF agreed to organise this taking into account the fact that next time it should be run as a complete programme of three sessions, with the Negotiating & Influencing event to be run as a separate standalone event.

5.2 Negotiating & Influencing

S Brock agreed to organise this.  

5.3 Time Management

SF agreed to organise this.

5.4 Emotional Intelligence

SF agreed to organise this

5.5 An Event for Senior Library Assistants

The group felt that this should be opened up to more staff and not just SLA’s. It was felt that this annual event could be broadened and marketed differently for example by not naming it as a conference. S Burnett agreed to organise this for next April/May.

5.6 Managing Budgets

SF agreed to run this in November.   

5.7 An event on the issues of ‘student behaviour’

FAO and VS agreed to organise this for mid May.

5.8 Managing Change: one event for managers & another for employees

GP and KER agreed to organise these for around mid February and FAO offered to send them the name of a good facilitator who works in this area. It was noted that cpd25 has run an event on this subject before and that this could be revisited and freshened up, to be run as a one-day event.

5.9 Training the Trainer

SF agreed to investigate the options for this topic with a view to it covering engaging staff and helping staff to train each other. S Brock offered to enquire if Levelheaded run courses on this.

5.10 An event on Customer Care in a Retail Environment

It was agreed that the group would run an event on Customer Care in a Retail Environment.

5.11 Visit to the House of Commons

S Brock agreed to organise this for hopefully next February.

5.12 Visit to Kew

S Burnett agreed to organise this for next May.  

5.13 Visit to Surrey University on the Subject of Space Usage

S Burnett and GP agreed to organise this visit for next spring.

5.14 Visit to Sussex University on the Subject of Space Usage

SF agreed to organise this visit for early next summer.

5.15 Marketing Yourself and Your Library

It was agreed that members would have a think about this topic and circulate any ideas before the next meeting.
