Meeting of cpd25 Task Group 4: Personal Effectiveness and Management
Tuesday, 23rd November 2010, 2pm, LSE NAB Room 8.02
In attendance: Florence Achen-Owor, Karen Ellis-Rees, Sally Faith (Chair), Claire Hackshall (Administrator), Claire Jeffery, Gerard Power, Val Straw. 1. Apologies: Apologies were received from Sally Brock and Sara Burnett. 2. Minutes of the last meeting: Accepted as an accurate record. 3. Matters arising: N/A 4. Review the programme to date for 2010-11 4.1 Leadership Development: lessons for aspiring leaders SF reported that the trainer used for these sessions last year was happy to run them again this year and she would be contacting CH shortly to find suitable dates to run these around February 2011. The aim was to run each of these three sessions as a full day. CJ agreed to take over the setting-up of these from SF. 4.2 Influencing & Persuading S Brock had sent her apologies for the meeting but CH was able to inform the group that this course was now all set-up and set to run on 3rd March 2011. 4.3 Time Management SF reported that this has been set for 30th March 2011. 4.4 Emotional Intelligence SF reported that this has been set for 15th June 2011. 4.5 An Event for Senior Library Assistants S Burnett had sent her apologies for the meeting, however the group discussed this event and GP offered to help SB with its set-up. 4.6 Managing Budgets SF reported that she was running this on 26 November 2010. 4.7 An event on the issues of ‘student behaviour’ FAO and VS reported to the group their plans for this event and explained how they hoped to use one of cpd25’s regular trainers to set the scene during the first half of the day, demonstrating techniques for dealing with different situations/people. The afternoon would encompass two speakers talking about their experiences in this area. Topics covered will include signing, zoning, patrolling and roving. The alternative title of ‘Keeping our Libraries for learning and understanding user behaviour’ was suggested. 4.8 Managing Change Workshop GP and KER outlined their detailed plans for this event and reported that the date of 24th February 2011 had been set for this and that it would be a full day. 4.9 Managing Meetings SF reported that she had a trainer in mind to run this event and just needed to check with CH on fees etc. CH agreed to follow this up with SF. 4.10 New Managers Toolkit SF reported that she had contacted two suitable trainers for this event and that they would be contacting CH shortly to find some suitable dates in April. The aim was to run this as two full days, one day covering management content with one trainer and the other covering coaching skills for managers with another trainer. 4.11 Marketing Yourself: Transferable Skills SF reported that she was hoping to run this event in April and that the trainer she had in mind would contact CH shortly for a suitable date. 4.12 Focus Groups VS agreed to research an event on the above topic. 4.13 Customer Care (General) The group discussed this subject and there was a general consensus was that it would be best to run an event on this topic next year, when identified suitable speakers would be able to give up their time for this. 4.14 Visit to the House of Commons S Brock had sent her apologies for the meeting and so an update wasn’t available for this visit, but CH confirmed that she knew that SB was waiting for a date for this visit from the House of Commons. 4.15 Visit to Kew S Burnett had sent her apologies for the meeting and so an update wasn’t available for this visit. 4.16 Visit to Surrey University on the Subject of Space Usage GP told the group that he and S Burnett hoped to organise this visit for next spring. 4.17 Visit to Sussex University on the Subject of Space Usage SF reported to the group that she hoped to organise this visit for next June. 5. Consider any feedback from previous Steering Group Meeting SF fed back to the Group how the previous Steering Group Meeting had gone. 6. AOB: KER offered to organise a visit to the Kubrick Archive and its special collections and this was happily accepted by the group. 7. Date of next meeting: It was suggested by the group that this could take place on Tuesday, 15th February 2010 at 2pm in the LSE Library. Members were asked to check up on this date and let CH know if there was a problem with this. |
