Meeting of the cpd25 Personal Effectiveness and Management Task Group
25th June 2007, University of Westminster, 2.15pm.

Present:
Judith Cattermole (Chair), Gerry Power, Donald Lickley, Susan Rivers, Sally Faith, Sara Burnett, Claire Jeffery, Val Straw, Jacky Camroux, Dave Puplett (administrator)

1. Apologies:
None

Judith welcomed Gerry Power from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies to the group. Judith also reminded the group that this would be Dave's last meeting as administrator.

2. Minutes of February 2007:
Accepted as an accurate record. The group ran through the events from 06/07 as follows:
Coping at the Counter - 2 successful events, to be repeated this year
Coping Even Better at the Counter - this new event was popular and should be repeated.
Mapping Competencies - Mixed feedback but a useful one-off session.
Negotiation Skills, Ash Charlton. Very good session, but bookings not all that strong, so good candidate for a rest.
Succession Planning - Sara still planning this event.
Widening Opportunities for Staff Development - not what we were expecting. Good idea but not executed as we had hoped.
Marketing - Claire still working on this, may need a new speaker.

Visits:
Brighton Jubilee + Sussex special collections. Very popular, Dave noted that the Jubilee has a conference facility that we could investigate using.
Kew - popular as always.
Oxford Brookes Exchange of Experience. A definite success, and Claire offered her assistance to anyone else within cpd25 thinking of running a similar event.

3. Matters Arising
To be dealt with in the next item

4. Programme 07/08
Emotional Intelligence, June, Judith

New Managers Series, Jan/Feb, Judith

Succession Planning, Dec, Sara, possible help from Susan

Coping at the Counter, Dec and April, Jacky

Coping Even Better at the Counter, Jan and late May, Jacky

The dates for coping at the counter should be all advertised in one go at the start of the year to let people choose for themselves which session to attend.

Dave to put Jacky in touch with TG5 about customer care in self service environment event to ensure no significant overlap.

Change Management / Coping with Change, Gerry to draft ideas, identify target audience. Likely a full day, May

Senior Library Assistants Event, March/April, Sally to start thinking about it. This event could include an exchange of experience session, and possibly a tour of another library that has conference facilities nearby. The target audience are traditionally reluctant to come on training, and this should be considered with the advertising. Part of the day could be given over to discussing 'hot topics'. The group could also speak to SLA's and find out what would appeal to them.
the venue could be London based, or a train journey out to somewhere Sussex / somewhere with appropriate staff structure and facilities.

Marketing, Feb, Claire, assistance from Val. Dave to put Claire and Val in touch with the people in TG5 who are looking at Marketing so ensure no overlap.
Participative event, probably half day.

Visits:
University of the Arts, Social Learning Space and Kubrick Archives combined. June 08, Jacky

Bank of England, Dec/Jan, Donald

Houses of Johnson and Dickens, Feb, Val

Houses of Keats and Freud, Donald to investigate viability, March/April

Kew Gardens, June 08, Sara.

Note: Claire volunteered her help for the people in TG5 arranging a visit to Oxford. Dave to put them in touch.

5. AOB:
Dave expressed his thanks to the group for their help and support, and explained that there would be a temporary, possibly part time administrator over the summer until a permanent administrator was recruited.

6. Date of Next Meeting:
20th September 2007, University of Westminster, Dave to book a room.
