Meeting of the cpd25 Personal Effectiveness and Management Task Group
30th May 2006, University of Westminster, 3pm.

Present: Judith Cattermole (Chair), Val Straw, Jacky Camroux, Claire Jeffery, Jo Butler, Donald Lickley, Sara Burnett, Beverley Lightley, Dave Puplett (administrator)

1. Apologies:
Sally Faith

2. Minutes of Previous Meeting 13th February:
Accepted as accurate.

3. Matter Arising:
Cancellation Policy - Dave clarified that cpd25 have not encountered any problems with speakers cancelling without rescheduling, and that the financial risk would be minimal.

4. Programme 05/06:
Coping at the Counter - June repeat - Fully booked (as previous sessions were) with minimal advertising.

Mapping Competencies - Has been postponed until October. Provisional date of Oct 10th set, but this is probably too close to the start of Autumn term. Dave to liase with Jacky about dates later in October.

Visits to Scotland Yard and Kew Gardens added to the programme, arranged by Sara. Both fully booked.

Brighton Jubilee to be carried over to the 06/07 programme.

Group Feedback from 05/06:
Jacky reported that much of the feedback from Coping at the Counter was people asking for a longer session.
Beverley reported that the Toolkit of Coaching Skills was a particularly successful session, helped by the attendance of a colleague of the facilitator.

Judith extended her thanks to all the members of the task group and administation for their work on the 05/06 programme, which was highly successful.

5. Programme 06/07
Repeats:
Coping at the Counter - To be repeated as standard in November, with a further repeat in the spring if necessary. Jacky to arrange dates with Sheila Ritchie.

Coping Even Better at the Counter - A full day session in February. This session wil be more tightly strucured, including themes not discussed at the shorter sessions, but for the same level of audience, such as dealing with international students and users with disabilites.
Jacky to consult Sheila Ritchie about potential content.

Middle Managers Series:
Three sessions repeated, with 4th on Performance Management added. The order will be modified, and Beverley will co-ordinate the speakers to ensure a good 'flow' to the series.
Coaching Skills: Oct
Performance Management: Dec
Strategic Planning: Jan
Communication and Change: April

New Managers Series:
To be kept the same, 3 sessions with Husdon Rivers. Judith to arrange for Jan/Feb.

Mapping Competencies:
Case study of Derby. Rescheduled for October.

Emotional Intelligence:
Repeated with Ash Charlton. Judith to arrange for May/June.

Negotiation Skills:
Repeated with Ash Charlton. Judith to arrange for Dec.

The seminars on Meetings and Statistics to be considered for repeats in the 07/08 programme.

New Sessions:
Sucession Planning:
With a facilitator, as a breakfast briefing session. LSE a possible venue. Sara to organise.

Widening Opportunites for Staff Development:
Val has a possible contact at LSE. Jo to assist. Discussive session, March.

Visits:
Brighton Jubile and University of Sussex Day trip- Sally Faith, June

Theme of visits to Natural History Libraries. No official link between visits for bookings, but a series of separate visits. Organised by Donald with Sara.

Natural History Museum - Jan
Royal Horticultural Society - April
Chelsea - May
Kew Gardens - June

Scotland Yard - Sara, January.
Repeat of successful visit last year.

Exchange of Experience day in Oxford - Claire, March.

Claire to investigate possibility of organising a visit / opportunity to share experiences at Oxford Brookes Universty. Travel from London should be easy.

Next Meeting:
Including lunch paid for by cpd25, Thursday 14th September, 10.30. Dave to arrange a booking.
