2.Minutes of the last meeting:
Accepted as an accurate record
3.Matters arising:
The group agreed that the Autumn meeting next year should be timed differently due to poor attendance at the meeting of September 2008.
4.Programme 2008/9
4.1 Events/visits already taken place
4.1.1 Coping at the Counter
It was reported that this event went well, though there will be a tighter cap on numbers next time.
4.1.2 Visit to Westminster School
SB reported that the visit was fascinating and enjoyable, and that it was definitely an event that could be run again.
4.1.3 Visit to Corpus Christi
VS reported that the visit was excellent, but unfortunately rather poorly attended.
4.1.4 Chairing and Participation Skills
VS reported that this event was very well-received, and that it will be repeated next year.
4.2 Events/visits yet to happen
4.2.1 New Managers Series
VF reported that arrangements are in place and bookings are being taken.
4.2.2 Emotional Intelligence
This is taking place in the latter part of the year in June.
4.2.3 Exchange of Experience
JC reported that this will now not be taking place.
4.2.4 Managing budgets
SF reported that the event will be aimed at new and junior managers. It will be a half-day event in May; SF to liaise with VF regarding suitable date.
4.2.5 Senior Library Assistant’s day
This will take place on the 21st April. A second speaker has been organised. Further workshop facilitators required; GP and VS offered to do this. The visits that will be part of the day still need to be finalised. Care must be taken to avoid rushing the visits, as feedback suggested that this had been the case last year. There will be one tour in the morning, and one in the afternoon, alternating with a series of workshops to be run also in the morning and the afternoon. Those who attend the visit in the morning can attend workshops in the afternoon and vice versa. The event is aiming to attract 60 people. A long lunch break will be planned to give ample time for people to talk; it was also suggested that an ice-breaker could be planned for the break as well. The day should be advertised in late February.
4.2.6 Visit to the Kubrick Archive
The proposed date for this is the 10th June, 2-5pm. It will be advertised in May.
4.2.7 Visit to Lincoln’s Inn Law Library
This has been advertised and is fully booked. GP to send VF meeting instructions to forward to delegates.
4.2.8 Visit to House of Commons
The visit will be for up to 15 people, and take place in May or June. DL to finalise details with contact.
5.AOB:
The idea for an event on managing teams of subject librarians was suggested. It was thought by the group that it was a timely subject, and may offer potential for a full conference for 2009-2010’s programme, but with a broader remit focussing on the changing role and future of the subject librarian.
6.Date of next meeting:
5th June, 2pm, LSE
