12th May 2008

Meeting of the cpd25 Quality Standards and Legal Frameworks Task Group

12th May 2008, 2.30pm, Westminster University

In attendance: Michelle Wake (Chair), Robert Atkinson, Louise Hughes, Matthew Lawson, Vicky Robertson, Kristy Widdicombe, Suzy Ball (Administrator).

Apologies: Ruth Harrison

1. Amendments relating to the retirement and pensions event were put forward by Robert.

2. Report on cpd25 Steering Group Meeting (13.3.08)
Michelle updated the group on the work of the STG. The debate around producing a surplus on future events, the potential overlap between group remits and the review were covered.
The point was made that the idea of making a surplus may meet less resistance if a clear statement about how the money would be used by the wider consortium was passed on to the members.

3. SDO Morning & Review Afternoon
Several group members attended the events at Goldsmiths. They expressed the feeling that those attending in the morning thought that the event should take place more frequently as the opportunity for discussion was very welcome.

4. Recent events
BFI Library visit. Kristy organised and attended the event. It was very well received by the twenty delegates that attended and BFI staff were very generous with their time. The visit could run again and possible incorporate a screening.

5.Forthcoming events
i. Disability focused events. KW has organised two half day seminars to run in early June. Both will be held and King’s College and the bookings are looking strong.
ii. Legal Research skills. Robert will aim to hold this event at Birkbeck in November.
iii. Copyright. Michelle to organise as part of the 08/09 programme.
iv. Retirement & Pensions. It was felt that this is an area best covered on a institutional basis as there are a variety of sessions put on by employers already and a wide range of pension schemes would need to covered. An event on employment law may be an alternative.
v. Diversity. Previously due to take place in May, Vicky will now work on putting this on in the early part of the next academic year. The event will focus on services for International students.
vi. Bournemouth Arts Institute. Kristy is to organise the visit and to look at combining it with a visit to Bournemouth University.
vii. National Archives at Kew. Matthew will arrange this visit to take place during the summer.
viii. Chartermark. Michelle plans to meet with Philip Payne to look at moving on with planning this event.
ix. Wandsworth Prison. Due to take place on the 20th June

6. Date of next meeting: 2.30pm, 8th September 2008.
