Minutes of the cpd25 Quality Standards and Legal Frameworks Task Group 2

Wednesday, 16th March 2011

 

Present: Robert Atkinson (Chair), Sian Blake, Claire Hackshall (Administrator), Matthew Lawson, Vicky Robertson.

 

1. Apologies

Susan Howard, Anne Pietsch and Kristy Widdicombe.

 

2. Minutes of the meeting of 8th December 2010 

Accepted as an accurate record.

 

3. Minutes from the 25th November 2010 Meeting of the cpd25 Steering Group

RA reported on this meeting to the group.

 

4. Review of current training events – where we are

 

4.1 Employment Law

RA reported that this event will be run on 23rd March and currently has 14 bookings.

 

4.2 Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics

ML reported that he knew what he wanted to do with this event, but due to work pressures he had been unable to get any further with it. He hoped to be able to run it during the third week of June. 

 

4.3 Assistive Technology and VLEs

As AP was unable to attend the meeting no update was available for this event.

 

4.4 Assistive Technology Services For Visually Impaired People In Libraries

VR reported that this event will be run on 25th March and currently has 20 bookings.

 

4.5 Copyright

ML reported that this event had taken place on 23rd February and had had 37 bookings. 

 

4.6 Data Protection

VR reported that this event was taking place on 31st March and that it currently had 10 bookings. 

 

4.7 Negotiating Skills

RA reported that he hoped to get the University of London Careers Service to run this course for cpd25 as a half-day event and he is currently working out a date that they could run this.  

 

5. Review of visits – where we are

 

5.1 London Library

RA reported that despite a number of attempts, he had so far been unable to make contact with anyone at this library.

 

5.2 Imperial College

ML reported that due to its popularity, two visits to Imperial College had taken place: 6th December and 26th January.

 

5.3 Freemasons Library

VR reported that this visit had taken place on 2nd March and that all 15 places had been filled 

 

5.4 Pentonville Prison Library

This visit had taken place on 25th August last year.

 

5.5 City University Library

ML reported that he hoped to organise this visit for sometime in July. 

 

5.6 Lincoln’s Inn Library

This visit had taken place on 24th November last year.

 

5.7 Commercial Law Firm Library

SB reported that she had arranged this visit for 16th May and now just needed to write the advert. 

 

5.8 Metropolitan Archives

This visit had taken place on 19th November last year.

 

5.9 School of Pharmacy

VR reported that this visit had been arranged for 12th April.

 

6. AOB

The group then had a discussion regarding possible event topics for TG2 for the next academic year and came up with the following list:

Employment law;

Copyright;

The disability area e.g. mental health, RNIB;

Shared Services/help desks (if this falls within their remit/with another task group);

Quality Standards;

Impact of Services;

Various Government depts.;

Inns of court;

Prisons visit;

Police museum;

High Court Library;

Supreme Court Library;

A broadcasting library e.g. the BBC;

Middlesex library;

Wiener library;

National Archives;

Zoological Society;

Welcome library.

 

7. Date of next meeting

It was agreed that this would be held in early June and that RA would send an email to all the members of the group giving this date.
