Minutes of the cpd25 Quality Standards and Legal Frameworks Task Group 2

10.30am, 18th November 2009

In attendance:

1.    Apologies

2.    Minutes of the last meeting

Accepted as an accurate record.

 

3.    Report of the cpd25 Steering Group meeting held on 16th July 2009

RA reported back to the Task Group the details of the above meeting. 

 

4.    Review of current training events

 

4.1 Contract and Supply Management

LF reported that she had been very busy this autumn and this had delayed plans for this event. LF said that she would be talking to LH later that week to discuss this event.

 

4.2 Employment Law

RA reported that he has got a contact for the above event and is currently discussing the plans for this with him. It would be a half-day event and the aim was for it to be very lively and to involve some discussion sessions. It would be ready for publicising very soon.

 

4.3 Basic Copyright

ML and RH were unable to attend the meeting but they had told RA that they were meeting on 24th November to discuss this event. They had clarified with task group 3, who are also organising a training event on copyright, that this one would be more basic than theirs. It was envisaged that task group 2 would run a regular programme of training events each year based around copyright. 

 

4.4 Managing Management Information

ML and RH are also organising this event and so will also be discussing this event at their meeting on 24th November.

 

4.5 Quality Standards

LF reported that she would also be talking to LH about this event when they discuss the Contract and Supply Management event later that week.

 

4.6 Making Libraries More Accessible (supporting students with mental health difficulties) 

KW reported that all the speakers for this event were now arranged and that she had a special 15 minute film to show at the start of the session to set the scene. It was envisaged that it could be run in late January and would be a half-day event with around 30-40 attendees.

 

4.7 Assistive Technology

KW reported that plans for this event were proceeding well and that she hoped it would be run around late March.

 

5.    Review of visits

 

5.1 Hornimann Museum

RH wasn’t able to attend the meeting and so an update on this visit wasn’t available.

 

5.2 Tate Gallery

KW reported that arrangements were proceeding well for this visit.

 

5.3 Society of Antiquaries

ML wasn’t able to attend the meeting but CH was able to confirm that this visit was going ahead on 8th December and that ten attendees were booked onto this.

 

5.4 BFI

It was hoped that this visit would be run in May and would take between 20-25 people.

 

5.5 London Library

RA reported that he would be contacting the above organisation in January, when a new deputy would be taking up a post there.

 

5.6 Wandsworth Prison

LH wasn’t able to attend the meeting and so an update on this visit wasn’t available. 

 

5.7.The Law Society

ML wasn’t able to attend the meeting and so an update on this visit wasn’t available.

 

5.8 One of the Inns of Court

RA reported that he was keen to organise a tour and talk at the Middle Temple for February or March and was currently following up the name of a contact he had been given.

 

5.9 An interesting library architecturally

LF reported that she was currently pursuing somewhere suitable for this visit.

 

5.10 Imperial

RH wasn’t able to attend the meeting and so an update on this visit wasn’t available.

 

6.    Any other business

VR agreed to investigate the possibility of a cpd25 visit to the Library and Museum of Freemasonry.

 

VR said that she was keen to assist other members of the task group with the organising of their events. The group thanked her for her offer and suggested that she could assist KW with both of her events and also the copyright event.

 

7.    Date of next meeting

It was agreed that the group would next meet on Wednesday, 27th January 2010 at 10.30am and that RA would book a meeting room at Birkbeck. This would be followed by the annual Task Group lunch at Giraffe in the nearby Brunswick Centre and VR would book a table for 12.30pm for this.
