Minutes of the cpd25 Quality Standards and Legal Frameworks Task Group 2

Thursday, 19th August, 2010

Present: Robert Atkinson, Vicky Falconer, Louise Hughes, Anne Pietsch, Vicky Robertson,

1. Apologies

Sian Blake , Susan Howard, Matthew Lawson,

2. Minutes of the meeting of 16th June 2010, and matters arising

Robert Atkinson (RA) reported that Louise Hughes (LH) will be resigning from the Group, and that this would be her last meeting; LH was thanked by the Group for her contribution. LH had been working on two events – ‘Contract and Supplier Management’, and ‘Quality Standards’: RA will ask Sian Blake (SB) if she would like to assist on the organisation of the event on contract and supplier management, and the Group will decide at the next meeting if they wish to take forward the planning of the Quality Standards event.

3. Update from July cpd25 Steering Group (SG) meeting

i) RA reported that there had been concern at the SG meeting that bookings for cpd25 events may fall in the coming year, due to the current financial climate; the SG had discussed the possibility of advertising some events more widely.

ii) All Task Group chairs had been asked to put planned events for 2010/11 into a template; RA will work on this for the Quality Standards and Legal Frameworks Group, and distribute to all members.

iii) There were a couple of instances of duplication in planned events for 2010/11 across the Task Groups. TG2 will keep the Copyright event, but will work collaboratively with TG1 on the visit to a law library with TG1.

4. Review of current events in planning

4.1: Employment Law

This year the event will take the form of an all-day session. RA will get in touch with the trainer from last year.

4.2: Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics

RA was unsure where Matthew Lawson (ML) is up to with finalising a date for this event, but reported that the speakers were confirmed.

4.3: Assistive Technology/Accessibility and VLEs

This will take the form of two sessions, which VR and AP will be working on together; good progress has been made with planning so far. The first session is scheduled to take place in Autumn, the second in Spring – dates still to be confirmed. LH offered a suggestion for an additional speaker; VR to follow up.

4.4. Copyright

RA reported that ML has recruited a speaker for this event, though was unsure if a date had been set. RA to contact ML

4.5 Data Protection

VR has contacted a number of potential speakers, and will aim to find a suitable date in mid to late January.

4.6 Contract and Supplier Management

Covered in item 2

4.7 Quality Standards

Also covered in item 2
