Minutes of cpd25 Task Group 2: Quality Standards and Legal Frameworks

2.30pm, 29th April 2010

Birkbeck College

 

In attendance:

Robert Atkinson, Claire Hackshall, Louise Hughes, Matthew Lawson.

 

1.    Apologies

Lise Foster, Ruth Harrison, Anne Pietsch, Vicky Robertson, Kristy Widdicombe.

 

2.    Membership of the Group

RA reported that KW was now on maternity leave until August 2011 and wished to record the group’s thanks for all her hard work over her time with the Task Group.  RA also reported that LF and RH have had to resign from the group due to work commitments and he wished to record the group’s thanks for their hard work over their time with the Task Group. RA and CH agreed to speak to the Chair of cpd25 to obtain some new members for the group.

 

3.    Minutes of the last meeting

Accepted as an accurate record.

 

4.    Report from the cpd25 Steering Group meeting held on 25th March 2010

RA reported back to the Task Group the details of the above meeting. 

 

5.    Review of current training events

 

5.1 Contract and Supply Management

LH reported that as LF has now resigned from the group she would try to finish organising this event herself, hopefully with a view to running it in July.

 

5.2 Employment Law

RA reported that this took place on 15th April and although attendees numbers were low due to it being just after Easter, the event itself was very successful and the trainer very good. RA hoped to run this event again next year, possibly with another of the trainer’s courses too.

 

5.3 Basic Copyright

ML reported that as RH has now resigned from the group he would need to talk to a member of his staff with copyright experience, for help with setting this event up. No date could therefore be given for this event for the foreseeable future. 

 

5.4 Managing Management Information

ML reported that this event would now be run in October 2010 with a title change to ‘Lies, Damned Lies and Using Statistics Creatively’.

 

5.5 Quality Standards

This would need to be held over to next year’s programme due to LF’s resignation.

 

5.6 Making Libraries More Accessible: Supporting Students with Mental Health Difficulties) 

CH reported that this event went very well with good attendance numbers and very good feedback.   

 

5.7 Assistive Technology

RA passed on some information from AP and VR who couldn’t be present. They have two speakers so far for this event and are looking to run it either in July or the Autumn.

 

6.   Review of visits

 

6.1 Horniman Museum

LH agreed to organise this visit for June/July.

 

6.2 Tate Gallery

This visit had gone very well with 16 attendees and good feedback. 

 

6.3 Society of Antiquaries

ML reported that this visit had gone very well.

 

6.4 BFI

ML confirmed that this visit had been organised for 5th May and CH confirmed that the attendance numbers for the visit were very good.

 

6.5 London Library

RA reported that he was hoping to arrange this visit for July.

 

6.6 Wormwood Scrubs Prison Library

LH reported that two dates had been arranged for this visit: 10th and 12th May.

 

6.7 The Law Society

ML reported that the Law Society had told him that they were not open to visits from outside people and so this visit would have to be taken off the programme.

 

6.8 Middle Temple

RA reported that this visit had taken place and gone very well. RA said that there was the potential to arrange more visits to this venue on other themes. 

 

6.9 Library and Museum of Freemasonry

VR reported that this visit had also gone very well.  

 

6.10 Imperial

ML agreed to arrange this visit. 

 

7.  Any other business

8.  Date of next meeting

It was agreed that the group would next meet on Thursday, 16th June 2010 at 11am and that RA would book a meeting room at Birkbeck for this.
