The group decided on the following events for the new programme.

Dyslexia Day
November 2003 & June 2004 - event to be run twice. This event will be a whole day. The morning will explore how Dyslexia affects people's perceptions and behaviour. Suggested speakers for this are the Dyslexia Institute. The afternoon session will address practical measures for assisting Dyslexics, such as presentation styles, web page design and signage. The event will be aimed at all levels of staff but will have a focus for staff that deal directly with users. Ruth Harrison and Caroline Lloyd will convene this event. Caroline will attempt to find a Chartership candidate to help them. Action: Ruth & Caroline to contact the Dyslexia Institute or similar http://www.dyslexia-inst.org.uk/ Action: Caroline to find a Chartership helper.

Flexible Working
March 2004 In order to consider the new legislation on "family friendly" working the group decided a whole day should be devoted to this topic. JSB will be approached to provide a speaker for this event. The day will be aimed at senior managers and those who deal directly with staff management. Tim Davies and Robert Atkinson will convene this event. Action: Tim & Robert to contact JSB or similar to get costing and give a brief of requirements. http://www.jsbonline.com/index.htm

Breakfast Briefing - Flexible working
In conjunction with this event the group plan to run a "breakfast briefing" in February 2004. The format will be an early morning meeting, 8.30am to 10.30am, with breakfast. JSB could be asked to provide a speaker and supporting literature. This will be an experimental session to see if the format is successful. Action: Tim & Robert to contact JSB or similar to investigate a speaker.

Race Relations Awareness
This event will be a whole day. The morning will focus on the Act itself and its meanings and implications. The afternoon session will focus on facilitated discussion of cultural experience. Areas of discussion might include what kinds of behaviours may not be acceptable in some cultures, the differences in the perception of women in different cultures and what these might mean for staff in the workplace. Christine has a potential speaker whose details she will forward to Jennifer. Other possible speakers are: English Language Institute
