Welcome to the LMN Representative:
Jean welcomed Mahmood Javaid to the meeting
Minutes of the last meeting: 2nd December 2002
One correction - No one has been approached regarding disaster planning as yet
Matters Arising:
M25 & CPD25 Party Philippa Dolphin has been co-ordinating the guest
list. Everyone on the CPD25 task groups should now have received their
invitation. The event will be held in the Weston Room at King’s
College, Maughan Library at Chancery Lane. Laurie Taylor will be the
guest speaker. The event is due to begin at 5pm.
Task Group One's "Enriching your graduate trainee year"
David reported that unfortunately this event has had to be postponed.
As a large proportion of this academic session has been completed it is
no longer useful to hold it in the same format. It is hoped that the
session can be run later this academic year in a slightly altered form.
Perhaps discussing other forms of post-graduate study to include
graduates who may not be planning to go to library school.
Reports from the Task Group Chairs:
Task Group 1 - David Gee
David was pleased to report all of task group one’s Chartership events,
seminars and visits are organised. The afternoon of the Staff
Development Officers event on the 8th April will be set aside for the
CPD25 first year review.
Task Group 2 - Christine Muller
Christine reported that the events held so far were very successful
with good take up rates. Employment Law had been particularly
successful. The group felt that if this event were run again it would
be important to select a different time of year, as December was a very
busy month. The Disability Discrimination seminar was also very
successful. The practical approach taken by the trainer, Wendy Le
Messurier, was very helpful for the delegates.
Task Group 3 - Maureen Wade
Maureen was able to report that the Project Management seminar had been
very successful. The Communications Management and Financial Management
Seminars are well under way now that the group membership has been
finalised and the events re-delegated among the members. Carol
Pickaver’s “Overhauling Efficiency? Seminar is almost finalised and
will include topics such as Auditing Procedures. The group will need to
organise an alternative visit, as Forest Gate Library will not be ready
to receive visitors until later this year.
Task Group 4 - Judith Cattermole
Judith was pleased to report that the “Managing Skills? 3-day workshop
run by Hudson Rivers’ Beryl Morris was very successful. An event aimed
at Senior Managers had been discussed in the Task Group meeting and a
potential workshop programme had been received from Hudson Rivers and
will be considered. The Guardian Archive visit had been very popular
and it is hoped that we will be able to return next year to see what
changes have taken place. Judith was also able to report the Training
for Trainers event due to take place on the 26th February was fully
subscribed. The Managing Attendance event will be held at the Slough
campus of the Thames Valley University on 4th April.
Task Group 5 - Janet Smith
Janet was pleased to report that the London Business School visits had
been very useful. The “Managing E-Resources? Seminar had been so over
subscribed that a larger venue was found. “Operating a 24/7 Service?
held at ULL had been very useful and many good ideas and discussion had
come out of the speakers presentations. “Managing Enquiry Services?
will be held at the Royal Veterinary College in Camden on the 25th
March.
London Metropolitan Network
Mahmood Javaid reported that the LMN would hold their first event
“Mobile Computing? on the 28th Feb at ULL. Sue Wing from London School
of Economics is the LMN Staff Development Task Force Chair. The LMN aim
to run 5 to 6 events per year, one of which, they hope will be a full
day event. The CPD25 administrator will be dealing with the entire
administrative and event organisation details for the LMN.
