Minutes of the CPD25 Steering Group Held at King’s College London, Franklin Wilkins Campus at 3pm, 16th January 2004 Present: Jean Yeoh, (Chair) Janet Smith, David Gee, Jennifer Nordon, Judith Cattermole, and Caroline Holebrook (Administrator) 1. Apologies There were apologies from Maureen Wade & Mahmood Javaid (LMN) 2. Minutes of the last meeting – 10th October 2003 Corrections were noted. 3. Matters arising • Ethnic Minority groups in Librarianship During the last meeting Maureen asked if CILIP had a programme to encourage ethnic minority groups into professional librarianship. Jean reported on CILIP’s Spectrum initiative The project forms part of CILIP’s Corporate Plan for 2003 and is the responsibility of the Equal Opportunities and Diversity Panel. For details about Spectrum please see the link below. http://www.cilip.org.uk/practice/spectrum/ • Liaison with cross sectorial groups Brian Murphy of Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London is re-launching the Health Libraries group. Janet will be the attending these meetings on behalf of CPD25. It is hoped that some collaborative activities will be possible. The group also agreed that some formal guidelines for dealing with external groups need to be developed. • Business Plan The Business Plan will be presented to the M25 Consortium Meeting on 29th January 2004 for approval of the overall objectives and the renewal of the administrator role. It is expected that the calculation of CPD25 subscriptions will conform to the method currently used for calculating the M25 general subscriptions. The Business Plan will also be presented to the University Libraries Committee for approval. 4. CPD25 Web Site • New web pages Caroline was able to report that the new web site was a great success. The site can now be updated instantly with all the latest dates and seminar details. The site now has a consistent colour scheme and font style. Caroline is looking into creating a “print version? of the CPD25 programme of events. Currently the online version doesn’t translate very well when printed. The booking form is also waiting to be “emailable?. Caroline is liaising with John Gilby to resolve this technical aspect. There is now an opportunity to do something interesting with the “News? page. It was suggested that any items of interest should be mailed to Caroline to be put up on the site. Ideally these items should be rotated regularly. • PowerPoint presentations The group agreed that PowerPoint presentations would not be put up on the site. 5. CPD25 Consultancy After much discussion the group decided that there were not many realistic opportunities for CPD25 to develop a consultancy role at the moment. 6. Task Group Reports Paste in reports here for the web version 7. CPD25 Staff Development Policy Survey Jean Yeoh, Val Straw and Caroline Holebrook have been co-ordinating the survey preparation. CPD25 are leading the replication of a survey carried out in Australia in 2001, investigating the current state of staff development and training in academic libraries. In addition to a survey of M25 institutions we will be collaborating with other academic library consortia including NoWAL (The North West Academic Libraries), SALCTG consortia (Scottish Academic Libraries Co-operative Training Group) and Oxford University. It is hoped the survey will be launched on 19th January 2004. The survey will go to the Heads of Service of participating institutions. The survey will be “online? and is being hosted by London School of Economics. Jean hopes to have some conclusions drawn from the data to present to the M25 Consortium by June 2004 8. Event Organisation Checklist The group briefly reviewed the checklist produced by task group 5. The Chairs will present this to their groups for any additions. These should be forwarded to Caroline for action. The first action agreed was that convenors would take (or Caroline would forward them) the feedback forms from events to give an immediate appraisal of the event to the task group. Action: Caroline to amend the guidelines 9. Administrators Report Caroline reported that the increased number of events has caused some difficulties acquiring rooms and in some cases commercial venues have been used. 10. Any other business • Conferences Judith was able to report that in September 2003 she attended the SCONL conference and delivered a presentation on CPD25 which will be written up and published at a later date Jean reported that she is attending the SCONL conference in Belfast and will also be mentioning the work of CPD25. • CPD25 Plenary Session CPD25 next plenary session will be held on 23rd April 2004 The group decided to offer a review of the initial data raised in the returns from the Staff Development Survey. The group agreed that all members would be randomly mixed up into groups during the brainstorming session to develop ideas to be used in the new programme. The group also agreed that a general vote was the best way to decide which ideas would go forward to the final programme. 11. Date of the next meeting 11th June 2004, 9.30am Venue: King’s College: TBA CH 19th January 2004 |
