Minutes of the CPD25 Steering Group
Held at Jean’s Office, King’s College, Strand Campus
At 9.30am, 22nd March 2005

Present:  Jean Yeoh, (Chair) Janet Smith and Sasha Poulter (Administrator) 1. Apologies
David Gee, Jennifer Nordon, Judith Cattermole, Maureen Wade

2. Minutes of the last meeting –
Corrections noted were: 9a – Administrator to make report on event feedback, summary of ratings, spaces available/taken etc.

3. Matters arising.
CPD25 travel award – Janet Smith is the winner.
2nd place not announced due to uncertainty about finances

Training needs survey
- Jean putting together a report as a handout for CPD25 review.
- How to gain better interest in returns? There were only 10.

LMN arrangements
- More formal arrangement for the future?
- Jean to contact Mick Khan about arrangements for 05/06
- Sasha to check how many LMN events have taken place/are planned.

4. CPD25 Planning Afternoon
- Tried to get speaker, but given up ½ hour – no suggestions
- Chairs to lead discussions
- How to fill time whilst counting votes – no decision taken.

5. Administration / Finance
- Need for better software?
- New administrator to look into this,

David Puplett, the new administrator, starts on 30th March.

Improve communication with administrator:
-    Administrator to draft a letter to say thanks, for administrator to send out to speakers who charge no fee.

6. Remit of groups:
- No issues about subject area discussion for groups 4 and 5.
- Discussion deferred until next meeting.
Action point for all chairs to come to next meeting having the discussed remit of groups.
 
Membership:
Group 5 – 10, but could manage with 9
Group 4 – 9 is fine, but with David Ward leaving it leaves 8.

Fliers to go out at events, especially 24/7 to attract new Task Group members.

Administrator to update Task Group lists, including email lists.

7. Task Group Chair Reports:

Judith
- Workload management: dealing with paperwork
- Senior management: target audience is aspiring senior management / middle managers.
- Influencing skills – needs a more specific brief
- Breakfast briefing – senior/directors/heads of service or their nominees
- 24/7 conference – 26th April 2005. So far 70+ delegates from across the country.

Possibility of a conference group? Judith and Janet suggested doing it across all of the Task Groups.
-    Meeting perhaps twice a year
-    Would help administrator

24/7 – Cathy, Judith, Carole and Val will have no charge as they are speaking. David and Elaine will be charged for the event,

David Ward has been a great member of the Steering Group – thanks expressed to him for all of his hard work and his commitment to CPD25.

Janet
Sally Houston is leaving – no-one will take her place.
Sam Martin is also leaving – a successor may be interested.

British Library visit – E resources expanded to the whole day

Managing Self issue –

Learning and Teaching Series – fully booked. The planning and teaching session was well received. No formal feedback. Gwyneth Price.
Large Groups –

Two events needed dates fixed: the dates need to go firmly into the calendar before information goes out.
They are billed separately so it probably doesn’t affect this.

Assessment and Certification – confusion over the title?
- Change to Accreditation and Certification
- Email to be sent out informing of the change.
Induction of Students
-    Mixture
-    Trendy and scary (something) technique
-    Unconventional

Marketing Event
-    27th May
-    Mary ( ) chair
-    Goretti Considine

Special Collections 2
-    Has been put-off.

Customer Care
-    Postpone
-    Individual Libraries
-    Beryl pointed out overlap with another group
-    Keep Sally in place for this? Janet to speak to Sally.

Student (something) – practicalities teaching with computers 05/06
-    Learning and teaching prof. doesn’t like looking at using computers – help/hinder?


8. Any other business:

Judith to consider any other methods of delivery
-    electronic delivery
-    VLE discussion
-    conferences
-    Jean to put on next agenda

Leaner support project
-    End of first phase: Commission research and have report
-    Send report and covering letter to NHSU / NHS university
-    Design and cost programme
-    Run pilot, researcher / project manager employed, to be completed by July (2nd stage)

Jean, Judith, Janet – both am and pm of 7th April event.

Next Meeting – 6th October 2005, 9.30, King’s College, Strand.
