CPD25 Task Group 3:
Operations Management
Report to CPD25 Steering
Group Meeting on 30.3.11
TG3 membership
David Archer (LSHTM), Martin
Carbonell (Kingston), Ian Clark (Canterbury Christ Church), Alan Doherty
(LSBU), Caroline Fletcher (UCL), Aniska Kumra (Goldsmiths), Catherine
Phillpotts (LondonMet), Pam Rew (Senate House Libraries), Judith Wells (UEA),
Peter Williams (UeL)
Resignations
Jenny Cefai stood down from
the group, however, as she transferred to TG1, CPD25 is still benefitting from
her expertise and she recruited a replacement for Task Group 3 (see below).
New Members
Judith Wells from UEA replaces Jenny Cefai, we have
also been joined by Ian Clark from Canterbury
Christ Church
Meetings
Since the last Steering Group
meeting, TG3 has held meetings on 12.1.11 and 17.3.11. I would like to record
my thanks to Martin Carbonell for acting as co-chair whilst I was recuperating
from my operation in November and for attending both this and the last Steering
Group as well as chairing the January TG Meeting for me. Our next meeting is
scheduled for 9.6.11.
Events held so far
Unfortunately, the UCU
strike meant that we had to postpone an event planned for that day. The feeling
of the TG Members was that although the event was not planned to take place in
a University building (and therefore would not require crossing picket lines),
as many of the attendees may be striking and as there would be uncertainty
about the event, it would be better to cancel several days out, than possibly
have attendees travel on the day only to find eg that speakers were on strike.
As the event had been fully planned, we are hoping that it will be possible to
reschedule it fairly quickly.
No other events have been
held since the last Steering Group Meeting.
Planned Events
See attached programme of
planned events. We now have pencilled in dates for a number of these, and
planning has moved ahead considerably for a significant number of our events.
Visitor
from University College
Cork
We were visited during the
week commencing 14.3.11 by a visitor from UCC – Claire O’Brien. Claire has been
appointed recently to the post of training officer, and her remit for the visit
was to find out more about how and when other University Libraries train staff,
what sort of records they keep and she was extremely interested in
collaborative work such as that done by the CPD25 TGs. Several of TG3’s members
hosted a visit for her to their own institution. She also visitedAntony Loveland chair of TG1The
timing of her visit coincided with TG3’s March meeting, which she attended.
TG3
Planning
Once again we are intending
to hold 2 meetings during the Summer break, as TG3 members are finding it
increasingly difficult to plan events and liaise with one another once a new
academic year starts. Previous experience has shown that if we do manage to
hold 2 meetings in the Summer – even if not all members can attend both
meetings, we can get ahead with planning for next year.
