2. Minutes of the last meeting:

Under 3.1: Note that it was two speakers who attended the Counter Cultures event

Under A.O.B: The Group inquired as to whether progress had been made to put event presentations onto cpd25 website. Action 2.1: VF to check with Support Team

Coral Black (CB) reported on the discussions that took place at the last cpd25 Steering Group (SG) meeting. The SG is happy with the number of events that TG5 is planning for 2010/11, and liked the use of the events planning template; the template is now being used by all of the cpd25 Task Groups. CB also passed on thanks to TG5 from the SG for their work on last year’s programme.

3. Programme of events for 2010/11; reports from TG members on event planning
:

3.1 Research Support Event
Organising team: June Hedges (JH) and Antonella Yarnold (AY)

JH proposed that this event should be held in January, rather than before Christmas as had originally been suggested; the Group agreed with this. Action 3.1.1: JH to liaise with VF to finalise date and book venue. JH reported that the event will be a half day programme.

JH suggested that it would be good to invite an academic researcher to speak at the event, in order to get a slightly different perspective. The Group agreed with this idea, and Grianne MacDermott (GMD) offered a possible contact. Action 3.1.2: GMD to get in touch with JH with details of possible speaker.

3.2 Inquiry Handling Software
Organising team: Pat Simons (PS) and JH

PS reported that the planning for this event is going well, with three speakers confirmed. One more speaker needs to be recruited; PS will look for someone who is  working on a combined services desk, as the Group agreed that this would provide a good balance of perspectives.

PS and JH hope to hold the event in mid March. Action 3.2.1: VF to liaise with PS to finalise date and venue.

3.3 Focus groups and getting the best out of your survey results
Organising team: PS and CB

CB reported that one speaker for this event has been confirmed; PS reported that she has some ideas for further speakers, but has yet to follow up. Action 3.3.1: PS to follow up potential contacts for Focus Groups event.

It was suggested that looking at the marketing side of focus groups could be considered, by inviting someone with marketing expertise to speak at the event. Action 3.1.2: VF to pass on to PS the contact details of LSE Library Marketing Manager. Action 3.1.3: CB and PS to liaise and focus ideas for the event.

It was also suggested that the event could offer a more practical perspective on survey results, by incorporating a hands-on session on statistics and qualitative analysis. The Group agreed to hold the first session as planned, assess demand around this subject area and then consider holding a more practical session later on in the year.

3.4 Mash-ups event: focus on mobile technology
Organising team: Craigie-Lee Paterson (CLP) and Simon Collins (SC)

CLP informed the Group that the event will not be able to be held in June, as she will be out of the country on exchange; the Group agreed to reschedule the event for April. No planning had been already been done for this event: Action 3.4.1: CLP and SC to liaise on ideas.  Action 3.4.2: CLP and SC to liaise with VF regarding dates.

3.5 RFID – Implications for Library Assistants
Organising team: GMD and CB

GMD reported that two speakers for this event have been confirmed, and they will be bringing two library assistants with them to talk about how their roles have changed. SC offered to contact the customer services manager at Kingston as another potential speaker. PS offered to send GMD details for an additional potential contact.

The event will be comprise of a ‘long half-day’– comprising a late morning start and an early afternoon finish, with lunch provided; this will enable delegates to travel to Sussex.

Confirm a date within the next two weeks so as not to clash with Mash-ups event.

4. Programme of visits for 2010/11; reports from TG members on visit planning:

4.1 Splash (Student Personal Learning and Study Hub)
Organiser: Jennifer Treherne (JT)

JT reported that she has spoken to her contact at Splash, who is happy to accommodate the cpd25 visit. JT advised, however, that due to building works the visit should be re-scheduled to early July.

4.2 Processfix
Organiser: CLP

CLP reported that the visit scheduled for November is already fully booked. CLP confirmed that it would be straightforward to set up a second visit later in the academic year, and the Group agreed to schedule this for January. Staff on the waiting list for November will be contacted to see if they would like to attend the January visit. Action 4.2.1: CLP to liaise with VF to finalise date for visit.

4.3 Kingston look at special collections
Organiser: SC

SC agreed to take this visit on for this academic year, to be held in early June.

4.4 Public Library visit – focus on marketing services and user feedback.

The Group agreed to put this event on hold until next year.

5. Any other business

6. Date of next meeting
