Meeting of the cpd25 User Resources and Services Task Group
18th June 2008, 2.30pm, University of Westminster

In attendance: Janet Smith (Chair), Karen Drury, Helen Alper, Antonella Yarnold,  Eilis Rafferty, Craigie-Lee Paterson, Suzy Ball (Administrator).

Apologies: Jennifer Treherne, Pat Simons, June Hedges

Note: Jane Rosen will return to the group in September and Craigie-Lee Paterson was welcomed to the group.

1. Minutes of last meeting: Accepted as an accurate record.

2. Events 2007/8:

25th April: Customer Care in a Self-Service Environment (KD). This fully booked event went well. The feedback suggested that all the speakers were positively received and the event involved a good contrast of approaches.

15th May: Metadata (PS). The event was fully booked and had a good structure. There were some problems with the venue and it will not be used in the future.

26th June: Approaches to Inductions (AY/ER). All arrangements are in place and Rowena Macrae-Gibson, from LSE, has agreed to chair.

Visit to the Wellcome Library (JS). This was a successful visit. Several members of staff gave generously of their time and the visit was thoughtfully organised and entertaining

24th June:  Visit to Oxford Libraries (JH). 17 places have been booked so far.

3. Planning for 2008/9:

[JS had produced an informal paper for the group outlining  capacity for events and highlighting priorities in terms of audience and the list of events resulting from the planning afternoon]

Conference on the Future of Academic Libraries. Ideally six task group members will work on this and should aim for a date in April 2009. EP to arrange a date for an initial meeting to allocate responsibilities and define the approach to be taken.

Resource Discovery. C-LP & JT to liaise with John Gilby in order to arrange two half day events.

NHS / HE Partnership Launch. Cpd25 will administer the event and JS & HA will work with the partnership.

Collaborative software for liaison librarians. JS & HA will work on producing a half day event, possibly with a health libraries perspective, for February – March.

Visits

RFID at the University of East London. C-LP to arrange.

Reading University. KD to arrange a visit to encompass their range of archives and special collections.

Next meeting: 10th September 2008, 2.30pm, Queen Mary, UoL
