Meeting of cpd25 Task Group 5: User Resources & Services 21st January 2010 at 10.30am LSE Library
1. Apologies: Karen Drury, Jane Rosen.
2. Minutes of the previous meeting: Accepted as an accurate record.
3. Update from Mary Nixon, Chair of cpd25 MN updated members on the investigations that she is currently carrying out to find a new Chair for the Task Group, following the resignation of HA last October to take up a post in the NHS. MN asked members to have a think about possible ideas for this and to contact her by email with these.
4. Update on 2009/10 events being planned:
4.1 Roving PS reported that plans for this event were going well, a venue has been booked and that she would shortly be asking the trainer for the morning session for her suggested programme. PS reported that she currently has two speakers for the afternoon session.
4.2 Counter Cultures SC reported that a venue has been booked for this event at Kingston and that he has several speakers already and is trying to get a few more. The Group suggested that this could be a whole day event. AY agreed to assist with the organising of this event.
4.3 Information Skills for Library Staff PS updated the Group with the organising of this event and two more possible speaker names were suggested for her to following up. It was agreed that this should be a short whole-day event with a central London location e.g. Birkbeck. A quiz was suggested as a good way to finish off the day. It was decided that the event should be run on 21st April 2010.
4.4 Collaborative Software CLP reported that due to the personal circumstances of the trainer for this event, she was unable to confirm an actual date at the moment.
4.5 OPAC’s CLP reported to the Group that this event would deal with suppliers in the morning and the actual experiences of people who have implemented OPAC’s in the afternoon. The Group gave some suggestions regarding possible contacts for these areas and agreed that as this would appeal to a particular audience it would be a fairly small event. CH gave CLP some possible dates in May and it was agreed that the venue should be in Central London.
4.6 Visit: Special Collections at Kingston University SC reported that the Archivist at Kingston was happy to arrange a visit for cpd25 and that he would liaise with CH regarding a possible date.
4.7 Visit: Government Library/PRO The Group agreed not to pursue this visit.
4.8 University of Sussex – Special Collections to support teaching GM and JT agreed to arrange this visit for early July.
4.9 Visit: Special Collections at Reading University JH agreed to take on the organising of this visit which would take place hopefully in June and CH passed on the details of the contact for this.
5. Any other business:
5.1 MN discussed with the Group other suggestions for events that had been made at their June 2009 meeting. It was agreed that an event on Reading Lists would be organised by JT in June, basing this on people’s experiences rather than running it as a formal training event.
5.2 CH read a message out to the Group from JR stating that she was extremely busy at work this year and therefore unable to commit to organising any cpd25 events for the foreseeable future. The Group agreed to accept her resignation as a member of the Group, but would like her to remain a contact for them at the Imperial War Museum.
5.3 The Group agreed that next year they could run a couple of small events during November and December and also that the beginning of July would be a very good time for running events i.e. before the School holidays.
6. Date of next meeting: It was agreed that this would be at the end of March 2010.
