27th February 2008

Meeting of the cpd25 User Resources and Services Task Group
27th February 2008, City University, 2.30pm

In attendance: Janet Smith (Chair), Karen Drury, Jane Rosen, Antonella Yarnold, Pat Simons, Eilis Rafferty, June Hedges, Suzy Ball (Administrator).

Apologies: Jennifer Treherne, Helen Alper.

1. Minutes of last meeting: Accepted as an accurate record.

2. Programme 07/08 – Events held:
31st January: Learning and Teaching 1: Interactivity in Information Skills Training (AY/ER). Despite the poor state of the room on arrival the event went well and was fully booked. The three speakers were excellent with Emily Shields, in particular, receiving very good feedback.

12th February: Marketing Day (HA/JR & TG4). The event evolved into a half day event followed by lunch. A good mix of speakers had been arranged covering Academic and Business libraries and a professional marketer’s experience and the feedback was positive.

3. Programme 07/08 – Events in planning:
25th April: Customer Care in a Self-Service Environment (KD). The aim of the event is to consider how libraries are changing their service delivery plans and customer support in an increasingly virtual and self-service environment and a mix of speakers from and academic and public library background have now been confirmed. This will be a half day event for approx. 30 people and a room will be booked by the administrator.

15th May: Metadata (PS). Three speakers are to address basics to applications (Pat Bell, KI Knowledge Projects; Julia Reed, Education Evidence Portal; OU Metadata Development Manager on Dublin Core). The administrator is to find a venue for this half day session.

Mid June: Learning and Teaching 2: Inductions (AY/ES). This event is in the early planning stages. The group discussed ideas that could be covered on the half day session such as the demonstrations available on youtube, an update on the Cephalonian method, and contacting a speaker from Edge Hill University.

June (late):  Visit to Oxford Social Sciences Library and others (JH). June will determine the libraries that could combine well to make an extended visit. The day would need an 11am start and require the delegates to make their own way to Oxford.

Visit to the Wellcome Library (JS). No update.

4. cpd25 in a Changing World
Janet will draft a paper based on the group’s comments, circulate the draft to the group and then outline their responses to the Steering Group Meeting on the 13th March.

5. A.O.B
The group devised a list of ideas to take to the cpd25 review day, taking place on the 17th April. The list includes looking at job sharing and e-learning.

6. Next meeting: 18th June 2008, June to arrange a room at UCL.
