Meeting of cpd25 User Resources & Services Task Group
7th February 2006, University of Westminster 10 am.

Present: Janet Smith, (Chair), Eilis Rafferty, Kathy Paterson, Jane Rosen, Kate Price, Antonella Yarnold, Helen Alper, Dave Puplett (Administrator)

1. Apologies
June Hedges was mistakenly left off of the email list for this meeting – Dave to contact June to apologise and fill her in.
Kate Warner was unwell.

2. Minutes of the last meeting
Accepted as an accurate record.

3. Matters arising
Toby Clark has left the group as he is moving away from London.

4. 2005/06 Completed Programme:

Learning and Teaching 1: Janet, November
Attended by 18 people with a maximum of 20. Held at Birkbeck, very positive feedback. Gwyneth would be happy to do a repeat.
As with other events, some people requested follow-up on progress after the event. Dave to raise at Steering Group about email discussions or possible alternatives.

Learning and Teaching 2: Eilis with June, December
Fully booked at 15 people, although we were quite oversubscribed. The session was very interactive and well facilitated by Michelle. A longer session would be better if a repeat session was run.

Visit – Whitechapel Ideas Store: Jane, with assistance from Anne Weist.
Dave attended the first, Jane the second. Both fully booked. The manager gave both groups an extensive tour of the building and gave a detailed discussion about the concepts behind the idea stores.

Support for Distance Learners: Helen with Kate Price, January
Full at 21 people. Very successful session, with a good discussion at the end. Helped by having such a lively chair in Adam Edwards.

5. 2005/06 Future Programme:

Visit – British Library: Janet, February
Dave to attend the first visit, Janet the second. Fully booked at 15 people.

Reading List Management: June H, March
Dave to speak to June ASAP about the event, and contact Janet and Antonella with details.

E-books:
Jane with Eilis, March
Four speakers confirmed. Title to be changed to: ‘E-Books: Converting the Old, Selling the New’. Eilis Rafferty to chair the event.
Dave to try and find bigger room to accommodate demand.

What do users want? Kathy, April
Dave to remove ‘Surveys’ from the title. Kathy is still chasing some leads on speakers from institutions that have held user surveys recently.

User Education for the Google Generation: Antonella and Helen, May
Three proposed speakers – Peter Godwin, Jill Parker and Debbie Bowden. Dave and Antonella to liaise about dates.

International Students – Kathy, July
Full day event, expanding on last years programme. Target audience of about 40 people.
Kathy and Dave to arrange date in early July

Teaching in a Virtual Learning Environment: Kate with Janet, June
Facilitation by a librarian. Kate P to assist if Kate W is still off work.
Janet and Kate to investigate further. If the event looks to be difficult to pull together, then a repeat of LT2 could be an alternative.

6. AOB
None

7. Date of Next Meeting
11th May 2006 at 10am at University of Westminster
ACTION: Dave to book.
