Visit To The Wiener Library [Event Ref. No. TG2V/WIEN] (3:00PM - 5:00PM)
The Wiener Library is one of the world's leading and most extensive archives on the Holocaust and Nazi era. Formed in 1933, the Library's unique collection of over one million items includes published and unpublished works, press cuttings, photographs and eyewitness testimony.

Cpd25 Planning Day 2013 (10:30AM - 3:30PM)
This planning event is open to all cpd25 Task and Steering Group members.

The day will run as follows:

10.30 – 11am: Registration with tea/coffee/biscuits

11 – 12.30pm: Each task group will hold a meeting with its members to discuss their plans for the 2013-14 events & visits programme – please can each Chair take the minutes of their respective meeting, ready to discuss everything and take it forward during the afternoon:

Task Group 1 = will meet in the Sylvester Room

Task Group 2 = will meet in the Burnside Room

Task Group 3 = will meet in the Hardy Room

Task Group 4 = will meet in the Cayley Room

12.30pm – 1.30pm: Lunch [please can you let me know if you have any special dietary requirements]

1.30 – 3pm: All the task groups will come together in the Hardy Room for an ‘ideas sharing and feedback’ session

3 – 4pm: The cpd25 Steering Group will hold a meeting to ‘draw everything together’.

Visit To Ravensbourne College Of Design And Communication Library [Event Ref. No. TG2V/RAV] (2:30PM - 4:30PM)
This visit will cover the library, the teaching spaces at the college, the effect of open plan building on the library, the remodelling of a library space and the marketing of e-resources to library users.

The visit will be of interest to academic librarians in general, librarians wanting to see how the library is marketing their services within the college and librarians interested in a recently remodelled library and how a library works in an open plan setting.

Access To Libraries: Supporting Dyslexic Users [Event Ref. No. TG2/DYSX] (1:30PM - 5:00PM)
This workshop aims to raise awareness of dyslexia and the challenges experienced by dyslexic students and researchers in higher education.

A clinical psychologist and learning support consultant will share their professional experiences of understanding and supporting dyslexic adults through the student learning processes. These insights will be then applied to how staff in research libraries and teaching environments can further help this intelligent yet often misunderstood user group maximise their potential.

14.00 – 15.00: Understanding the neuroscience of dyslexia by Dr Beverley Steffert

15.00 – 15.30: Dyslexia and educational kinesiology: introduction and exercises by Eleanor May

16.00 – 16.45: Dyslexia, structuring creative thinking and the theory of constraints (TOC) in education by Eleanor May

16.45 – 17.00: Question and answer session: application to libraries and research, by Beverley, Eleanor and Paul Allchin, Reference Specialist at the British Library, Science Reading Rooms

SLA Conference 2013: Navigating Networks [Event Ref. No. TG4/SLA] (9:30AM - 4:30PM)
This event is the sixth annual cpd25 event designed for those who supervise staff, services or both.

The Audience: Senior Library Assistants, Information Services Supervisors, Library Assistants, Information Assistants (or their equivalent).

Following on from the previous successful events, the day will enable participants to discover how to make the most out of different networking methods, both in the physical and virtual worlds.

The day’s overall theme is around the ways in which communicating with colleagues can enhance our skills and knowledge. While we were once limited to meetings, phone calls or email, there are now a multitude of ways for us to keep in touch, ask questions, market and learn. This will be a highly participative day, enabling attendees to share their experiences and best practice.

The feedback from each group will be arranged so as to be quick, painless and efficient – in keeping with the tone of the event.
