Staff Development Officers Discussion Forum I:
The Role of Staff Development During Organisational Restructuring

Speakers: Ann Cummings (Brunel) and Donald Lickley (KCL)

CPD25 is very pleased to offer an afternoon discussion forum on the role of staff development during periods of organisational restructuring on Wednesday 24th March 2010. The event will begin with lunch and will be followed by two case studies and a breakout discussion session.

The aim of the informal discussion forum is to explore what is expected of Staff Development Officers by both employers and employees during periods of major organisational restructuring.

The objectives of the afternoon are to:

• Identify some of the key roles and initiatives which staff development will be expected to provide
• Learn and benefit from the past experience of Staff Development Officers at other libraries
• Exchange ideas and experience during the breakout session.

This afternoon seminar will benefit Staff Development Officers and those staff who are involved with programming staff training.

Programme:

1.00 – 2.00 Arrival, registration and buffet lunch

2.00 – 2.05 Welcome and introduction (David Gee, Deputy Librarian at the Institute of Advanced
Legal Studies Library, ULRLS)

2.05 – 2.25 The role of staff development during restructuring at Brunel University Library (Ann Cummings, Acting Director at Brunel University Library)

2.25 – 2.45 Career Paths in ISS – staff development initiatives in a converged service (Donald Lickley, HR Support Manager, Information Services & Systems, KCL)

2.45 – 3.00 Questions

3.00 – 3.15 Tea

3.15 – 4.00 Breakout discussion session

4.00 – 4.15 Feedback session

4.15 Close.

The event will take place in the Hardy Room at The London Mathematical Society, De Morgan House, 57-58 Russell Square London WC1B 4HS

The cost to attend the event is £35 for cpd25 members, and £50 for external delegates, including refreshments.

Cancellations less than one week before the event will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day, the full fee will be charged.
